How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I have a Garmin 465T, a few years old now but has been a fantastic sat nav. I use it almost everyday with my job. You can switch between Car mode and Truck mode. You enter you dimensions of you car and van and it does the rest.
The best thing is that it has lifetime map updates and lifetime traffic re-routing which unlike most TomToms is free.
I like the tomToms, mine is an old TTOne. I always check the route with a map, just so I know it's going the way I want to go! I bet the new models are really good with caravans.
Last year when I was looking for a new sat nav I was quite keen on the TomTom caravan/motorhome version but I could not really justify the difference in price and decided in the end to go for a Start 60 which has a large 6 inch screen. (Good to see from Blueexpo's link that the price seems to be coming down a bit.) One of the reasons for deciding against was that with any sat nav you still have to review the route and if I have to do that I may as well save £200.
Agree with David. I always review the route if I'm towing. I have a Garmin satnav which I like because I find the display to be less cluttered than some other units. With Garmin you can use their Mapsource or Basecamp software on a PC to create a suitable route and then transfer it to the satnav.

Some people are just all show. I don't mind that if the show is worth watching, but .....
I also have a start 60 and you can purchase the Europe camper maps for that model (and others) it cost me about £50 for the map download. it has 4 modes, car, caravan, motorhome and van.
in the caravan mode in allows you to input the total length, width, height, weight etc, I have not used it towing yet but did a dummy run in demo mode and selected car, then caravan and it rerouted around a known narrow bridge,
I too am looking around the market place for a satnav for use when caravanning. I have looked at Garmin, TomTom and the Snooper models.
The tomtom is what Im used to but with no free mapping with a unit in and around £320 is a little stingy in my view. I like the idea of the start 60 but no bluetooth hands free capability.
Garmin have just done a deal with the C&CC in that they have now included all their sites, cert sites, european site (20000 in total) etc and offer life time free map updates for £319.
Snooper caught my eye but the only model that gives updates free is the 2500pro but a 4" screen. The 5000 series is a better size but pay £60 for updates.
