After many years of caravaning with a single axle caravan we have just invested in our first twin axle caravan. My only major concern is how I will level both wheels on uneven ground. Is it simply a case of reversing over 2 of the standard heavy duty ramps ( we already have them) or is there a better method available ? I'm told by my insurers I have to fit my Alko wheel locks as well.
It's all getting a bit complicated
Any help would be appreciated

I just bought some lengths of timer deck board and cut one length a little longer than the length for both wheel to sit on it, then another 6 inches longer and then another one another 6 inches longer. That way you can stack them and drive your van up them to get level. Cheap, light and rot treated.

Hi. Thanks for replying, but doesn't stacking the decking boards one on top another cause a potential tipping issue?

Hi, no we've used them since we bought the van and never had them tip.

I have one of these mounted on the wall of the front gas locker and it shows how many planks are needed.

We use a Lock n Level for our twin axle and it makes it a doddle to fit the ALKO lock on both wheels. See HERE

It makes levelling so easy. Park on the pitch, look at the level and use the number of planks needed and drive onto planks. Simple and cheaper than £150 for the airbag and having to connect 12v pumps. The only problem is that I can't remember where I got them.

It makes levelling so easy. Park on the pitch, look at the level and use the number of planks needed and drive onto planks. Simple and cheaper than £150 for the airbag and having to connect 12v pumps. The only problem is that I can't remember where I got them.


How does the level gauge know how thick your planks are ?


It is graduated in inches, so if your planks are 1" thick then bingo. Can it get any simpler?
