I am thinking of getting a cover for my 2010 Lunar Ultima 460/2 for use while it is in a storage compound during the winter. I would like some advice as to how useful or not they are, what if any precautions I need to make to ensure that I do not damage my caravan and any suggestions as to what type to get.
I find the use of a cover keeps my Lunar totally protected from the elements. Providing the cover is made of a breathable material, with a 'soft' lining, and with 'ease of access' panels built in, I cannot fault the use. During the very long cold spell and snow earlier this year, my cover ensured the caravan was protected and was sparkling clean on removal.

We also cover our Lunar - I'd highly recommend Protec covers as you will get a custom fit and door access to your van, plus its pretty easy to get on and off. If you are a member of either club you get a small discount too
------------- If you're not on a fell your wasting your feet and for 2014 it's.......Feb Castleton Mar North Yors Moors; Apr Sutton on Sea; May Thirsk; Jun Clapham/Riverside (Lakes); July Wharfedale; August Crakehall; Sept Knaresborough; Oct Wirral Park/Clitheroe
We keep our van on our drive and mainly cover it because of various blossom trees. So we remove and fit the cover several times a year - the Protec is supposed to be a two man job as you have an adjustable pole for each side of the van which fit into a plastic eyelet on the cover and then both people holding the pole lift the cover over the caravan from front to back. As the fit is so snug once you have it over the top of the van its very easy to grab and pull down and fit it to the corners of the van. After that you just throw some straps underneath the van (safety harness type belt fasteners) fasten them together and pull tight. It takes us around 10 mins all in all max.
The only time consuming thing about having a cover is that you must give it a clean before fitting the cover so that any dirt doesn't rub up on the van - although there isn't any flapping or much movement, grit and suchlike could catch and scratch paintwork or windows.
Thanks for the feedback Fiona. I can see I will have to enrol the assistance of my neighbours if I go down that route. As the 'van rarely stands for more than 3 weeks without being used I am not sure if a cover would be of any advantage to me.

1 Caravan covers keep the caravan clean during storage . 2 Caravan covers are especially useful if the caravan is stored under trees. 3 Caravan covers are likely to deter would be thieves from stealing your caravan or its contents. 4 Before fitting a caravan cover ensure that the caravan is clean . 5 Fitting a caravan cover is a two person job. 6 Windows need extra protection if using a caravan cover. 7 If buying a caravan cover get a good make that fits well i.e. one that has the door opening in the right place. 8 Caravan covers cost about £120 for a smallish 2 birth caravan.
One last question. I can see that the caravan needs to be clean before fitting a cover, but does it have to be dry? If so how do you dry a caravan at this time of the year before fitting the cover?
only read of one instance but that was enough to stop me using it (cling film) ,problem is now using a cover for the first time i am not sure what to use to cover the windows to prevent scratching.any ideas that work welcome.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Had a looky about the web for something that seems to not burn the windows.Came up with this stuff, the stuff they seem to put on the glass of your mobile phone..click
we have rolled cling film over windows this time to stop any marks getting on them.

i can see your thinking on the cling film but must warn you it can badly craze your windows and once crazed you can not remove it.
hi michael
Its the first year i have put cling film on windows.I so a post on here that someone used cling film on there windows it sounded like a good idea but if thats what happens with cling film on its not worth risking. Its only a 30mins job anyway in spring to get any marks off windows.Has this happend to you ?
