Hi,
I know we have a motorhome, but today whilst driving home from York on the A19, we passed a beautiful large caravan with the roof vent wide open, we pulled alongside them and tried to jesture that their roof vent was open, but what arm movements do you make to let people know what you are trying to tell them!!!!! Unfortunately about 2 miles down the road they overtook us again and the vent was completely missing, we tried to tell them again but to no avail. Just wanted to let anyone know that if it was them and they use this forum it was us and we are not mad! There should be a universal signal that you can give to people when there roof vent is left open when travelling, what you do think?
Sandra.

Hi, must be the daft season again,a wee bit o sun and a mad dash to get there, must have been the order of the day on M6 Friday an Satarday, was driving solo on way to Grange over Sands, lost count the number of caravans that had roof vents open, and the number of caravans and small trailors travelling at 70mph totaly oblivious to the regulations and speeds for towing, saw tree trailors with blow outs waiting for assistance, looked a bit shook up,police at one of them takeing notes did not look as if anyone hurt.

My wife & I had a conversation about ours as we drove back from the new forest. The unanimous opinion as we drove was that it was closed - and it was!
It is all too easy to forget it especially in the warm weather we have been having.

have seen a few with the vent fully open while driving but the thing is they are usually on the opposite side and sticking one finger up at them does not look good even if they see me.the guy i was with today had lost his full skylight and had to replace it.today also i spotted a large caravan stopped on a narrow road and on a sharp corner near whalley with a full blowout the o/s tyre was in shreds.

I don't bother anymore. If they are too stupid to check such things then frankly I don't want to be getting that close to them.
I have recently seen a motor home and a caravan on the motorway with the battery locker open and flapping in the wind. On both occasions, these were on the drivers side. How could the driver get in through his door and supposedly be looking in his mirrors without noticing?
It's just that time of year when the idiots go caravanning. Probably safest to give them a very wide berth. They always seem to know better. Even pointed out to someone in a carpark that his roof light was open. Apparently he always left it open so the dogs could get some fresh air.

You don't have to be perfect to see that your offisde locker door is open. You must look at that in the mirror every few seconds.

I lost my roof window once, 'the older type', so as a matter of course after we replaced it we used to secure it with a long bungee cord which worked effectivly, now we have those locking catches on them so, I think having lost one previously, it's now on my list of things to double check prior to setting off.

I have never left any lockers open or roof vents.Would be hard to see roof vent open though.Yes you should check but even I make misteaks!! sometimes. Obviously some of us don't though. But to brand them as "stupid and idiots" is a trifle condescending.I.M.O.

With your background of driving I would think you'd be using them constantly, but there are some that think that they are just there for decoration and to just satisfy the law requirements.
On the subject of open roof lights, last Monday I passed, going the opposite way, two caravans in the space of 30 mins, both Baileys and both had their Heki roof lights wide open. Then on Friday I passed another van on a busy motorway with it's roof light open.
We can all forget, lockers have a habit of unlocking - I once found my main door open when I stopped for a check It would be nice to have a sign/signal for something that is open or wrong on your van.
