I am looking at getting a gas heater to use in the awning on colder nights and I am wondering if the below can be used via the bbq outlet on side of van (no bulkhead regulator so outputs at full 37mb) as I dont see the point in carrying an extra bottle just for a heater.
hi both, we av always camped with full family of teenagers who couldnt av survived without our awning. On cold rainy nights we always had family nights when we played cards n dominoes etc with our oil filled radiator plugged in all night. We found it one of our neccesities , cost nothing to run if you are on site with electric hook up. bonus is lovely warmth all night thru they are brill. dead cheap in argos . happy hols.
------------- backyardigan. fresh air costs nowt so love it.

Think about the cost to the site (and environmental effect) of using a heater all night in awnings. The heating isn;t on all night at home, is it? Get a good all season sleeping bag. If we all use heaters in awnings and sites end up with a HUGE leccy bill, sites fees will witgher increase dramatically or sites will use pre paid leccy cards. I believe some sites already use these.
I'd definately get an electric heater, with the EHU you don't take the hit on your gas and no CO2
I use a small electric fan heater which doesn't have to be on for long before everyone is nice and toasty nice and safe and cools down quickly once it's off so i'm not worrying about anything or anyone getting burnt

Have to agree with Lassie - insulation not heating.
There have been three camping tragedies in the last few weeks apparently caused by carbon monoxide, please read this Fire Service advice and this from RoSPA.
Hi Dave & Maria, to answer your question, we use one of these to plug into the barbeque outlet

Even Catalytic gas heaters give off carbon monoxide...
The first symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning is the inability to reason - probably why people think it's ok to bring a smoldering barbie into the awning or their tent
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
CO2 (carbon dioxide) is not the "deadly killer" it's CO (carbon monoxide) that you need to be worried about. You can get carbon monoxide detectors.
Strangely enough a lot of older caravans had the fridge vent inside the awning. Seems very ill thought out to be venting toxic odourless gas into the awning.
