VRX SCENIC 5.0i - 5 Berth Family Tent
The Scenic 5.0 is a brand new tent design
for 2006. The large five man family tent comes with pre-bent
steel poles for maximum head room and breathable polyester
inner.
The entire inner area of the tent has a
sewn in groundsheet. It is extremely easy to erect with only a
3 pole design. You also erect the fly sheet first. All poles
are colour coded.
The sleeping area is one large area
allowing parents and children to have different bedrooms, or
for there to be one large bedroom. The tent also has
reinforced pegging points and stability strap fixing points
(the tent comes with two storm straps).
With its front canopy and entrance
vestibule the tent is great for barbecuing out of the wind and
had plenty of room for eating inside.

The VRX5.0i is the best tent we have ever owned! We did however find that you needed to attach the storm guys first as we pitched the tent in 30mph winds (chaps get the missus to lay on the tent here ) but once all the outer poles (steel) are in there colour coded sleeves and clipped on, the tent is pulled up into place. This tent needs two to erect it)
The pegging is very easy on the outer (the camp site we stayed at Rosemarkie has stone’s just below the surface so you need to go on at about 30deg) and most of the work holding down the outer is done by the guide ropes (lots of them for windy sites)
We always put a large ground sheet down to protect the inner from thorns; sharp stones etc and gives us a decent base to put the inner on. (Be careful here don't let the ground sheet extend to outside as you will get water pooling inside if it rains)
The tent has two opening, front and side, we left the front zipped down and used the side. The inner has colour coded elastic clips that attach to the outer (I must point out here I am 6ft 3in I can reach the center clips with ease, but my wife is 5ft 1in and she would need a decent box to stand on to do these) At the base of the inner there are clips that are attached to the outer at six points, this keeps the inner fixed in place. There is a pegging point at the back (sleeping area) and two at the front (in our opinion there ought to be a couple of extras in the front porch area as this lifts up when the when it is windy and can trip you up. (Not so bad if you have just come back from the pub but a hazard if you have a cup of hot coffee) As the inner has a ground sheet fitted throughout this makes cleaning very easy, the ground sheet extends up the sides about 30cm (this will not be a good tent if you are in a wheel chair as our next door camper was and it would have been nice to invite them in for a drink)
The tent has two venting flaps at the back that are very adjustable to suit all weather conditions. The inner allows you to have two individual bedrooms (but as we are a couple we left it a large bedroom) and has two doors with mesh and solid screen. The tent has lots of clear plastic so you can look at the views, even a sky light. We never had any problems with condensation as you do with nylon outer tents
What sold us on this tent is that is has loads of good ideas like, if you live and tent in Scotland most of the time and can be plagued by the midge you are protected while you sit and enjoy a glass of wine.....Comments from iandar
Ordered a VRX5.0i late on Thursday night and it arrived just after 11 this morning (Monday), excellent service.....It is a great tent and i think a very good buy. It comes with instructions which are sewn into a label inside the bag....it seems to be very well made and comes in two nice carrying bags one for the tent the other for the poles...it looks like it should cost more...We just took ours down to Little Meadow in North Devon. It was so comfy and the talk of the campsite with most people saying it was one of the best tents they had seen... Comments from Robmac
Ok - we have had our first camp in our new tent (Scenic 5.0), I do have to say it was very good. Relatively easy to pitch once we got our heads round it.....quality seems to be there with attention to detail in the finishing. Lovely quality and very well thought out features such as rain gussets round the porch to keep out light rain from the porch area. Gussets round the rear windows so your able to have them open but still have privacy. Huge sleeping area with room for stowing clothing and 'stuff'... Comments from Magnolia
