Toilet/shower there was only 2 of these near us (on the side of the restaurant) and these had drains located upwards of the slope of the floor, so squeegee mops were provided to push the shower water to the drain. It took some doing after a shower with my daughter and a couple of more times that evening I went to use the toilet and had to again clean up the floor as whoever had used the shower hadn't bothered. Also there was no indication of when they were occupied so the door handle was tried multiple times when I was inside.

The other toilets were at the main block. There was a proper ladies with plenty of individual cubicles but I went in another of two toilet/ shower rooms, the occupied/ vacant sign of which was illegible so somebody tried the door while I was in there.

The Quarterdeck restaurant had no vegan options and though it states on the website that site guests can use the facilities at the Garrack Hotel, this facility appears to have closed.

The Garrack website stated is down and Google says it's permanently closed, but I gather it was possibly a golf club and the new build is all that land. I would been tempted to ask about vegan options but was put off by the 12. 5% service charge which was automatically added to all orders, and would require you to ask for it to be removed if you didn't want to pay it.

The staff were very nice but the food and especially the drinks were overpriced. I tried two different red wines, one was vinegary tasting, the other was just not very nice. We gave up in the end and got some fries to take out (£4 a pop) and had other food back the campervan.

The second glass of wine and a pint of lager cost nearly £15. The pool looked nice but at an extra cost of £3. 50 per person it would have been an extra £14 (family of four) so we didn't bother but most sites would allow guests in for free and after already paying £71 for an electric pitch for 1 night this seems unfair.

The playground in front of the restaurant was fun for both of ours but one of us had to stay with our youngest so we couldn't really relax fully together. Another play unit for the smaller ones would be nice.

One thing that was great was the 'cool room' which our oldest loved. This was a room the kids could go in to watch (moderated) YouTube on various bean bags strewn across the floor. We checked on her several times but she was fine. Later on we learned there was a camera to watch over them and a member of staff would also periodically check on them too. Awesome when it started getting dark and/or a bit chillier.

We didn't walk down to the beach but I did walk to a local shop for bread and milk in the morning. I can't help but think it couldn't be difficult for this site to sell these basics at reception. For the price of the stay I'd expect this as a minimum.

The overall vibe of the site was relaxed and friendly and we got chatting to several other parents, which is always nice.

So overall I had a few niggles but mainly due to the cost of staying, I don't think the toilets/showers were 10/10 as I've seen in other reviews. If they could fix these, provide a little shop, make the pool free and offer vegan options then it'd be much closer to justifying the cost.

Great location over looking at Ives beach and nice, clean facilities!

The women’s showers were a little smelly but the facilities were great. Bonus points for having a hairdryer!

Stayed again in march away from the school holidays, site is as usual busy but perfect.

A lot has been done since last visit new pool and restaurant opened and top field gravel pitches added but only gripe with them is you have to cross the grass to access them which is not easy when the area is wet and muddy a good run up is usually needed not easy when reversing and turning a campervan with neighbours opposite pitch and yes there is a building site behind the site. Which requires the site road to be used for large lorries.

Otherwise our stay was very good. And we made our yearly way to the mexican restaurant in town

will definitely be back but after the building works is finished

Firstly, great views over the town & the sea, very nice toilet block & the walk back up from the town is not too bad.

However, the major house building works are a bit of a pain, with lorries & workmen back & forwards through the site, not very relaxing.

We also found it hard to understand why most pitches have a grass section between the gravel & road, like several others we nearly got stuck.

There was also no way to get on & off our pitch without walking over mud!

Didn't think it was really worth the high price.

We were so looking forward to staying on Ayr over Christmas again. Did it for years then sold our motorhome. Now we're back with one we booked here again for 5 nights over Christmas.

Sadly we only ended up staying for 3 nights as my Mum passed away on Christmas Day.

However, our pitch was excellent with one of the best views you'll ever get from a campsite pitch.

Facilities spot on.

There's a new (to us) indoor pool and restaurant on site now. We didn't use this (due to our early departure) but you get a 10% discount card when you check in.

Great walks from the site, yes it's very hilly but stunning.

It's not cheap to stay here but you get what you pay for!

We would love to go back again for Christmas but it all feels a bit too raw at the moment so maybe time for a change sadly?

 Absolutely lovely site!

We had the perfect view of the sea.

An idyllic spot.

The showers and toilet facilities were spotlessly clean.

A nice stroll down into St Ives, bit of a hike back up! But worth it!

What a gem of a site.

We pitched on a hard standing area with magnificent views over St Ives.

It was a short walk in to town. The walk up the hill wasn't too excessive.

The amenities were first class. We'll certainly be going back!

We liked being able to camp at the front of the site with a great view of St Ives and the sea.

The facilities were excellent, including heating in the shower block.

I asked by email what the cost would be. They replied with a question about the length of my VW campervan and told me they had a pitch. I saw on their website £21 so I called to book. When I arrived I found it is £21 for the van (no people) so ended up paying £259 in total for 7 nights (with electricity). I hadn't received the booking confirmation. They had my deposit already so there was no room for discussion.

TV room and swimming pool under construction.

Nice shower block.

Pitch not level, got stuck reversing on. Blocks supplied which an employee eventually helped me use. Picnic table on the pitch. Stayed put the whole week - getting off and on the blocks was more than I could do on my own.

Beautiful views, toilets and showers were very clean.

Very close to St. Ives - easy to walk down to the town - steep climb back up but well worth it for the view back at the campsite.

They are doing building works at the moment so no pub on site - the building work was also quite noisy during the day with diggers passing our plot so not very peaceful- but I'm sure it will be worth it when it is finished.
