1 Reviews of the Double Dawn
By: Db195 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
I bought my Double Dawn to be used as a family tent just in case my wife ever wants to go camping, as my solo-camping Outwell Birdland 3 really isn't big enough for more than one.
The Robens made its debut at a very wet and windy Camping and Caravanning Club site at Scarborough. Although nearly 70, I managed to erect it by myself without too much trouble although a fellow camper was standing by just in case. Having said that, I found it a bit of a struggle to bend the alloy poles enough to get the tent locating pins into the ends of the poles. I felt sure that the poles were going to break, or at least bend, under the strain and, sure enough, one pole DID bend slightly out of shape which made the tent 'sit' slightly crooked. This, in turn, put a strain on the elastic hangers of one bedroom module to such an extent that I couldn't zip the door closed for fear of the stitching breaking. To be fair, I think that this situation wasn't helped by the fact that the site manager allocated me a pitch that was on a sideways slope with about 9 inches of un-mown grass underneath me!
The groundsheet of the Robens is a zip-in affair (quite handy as a entry point for my EHU cable) but seemed far too big for the living area and I couldn't get it to 'sit' properly, but maybe the long grass didn't help.
The weather was pretty grim some of the time but, when the sun did come out, it was a nice bonus to have three opening and fly-screened doors to aid ventilation. There were no leaks even in the (sometimes) heavy rain and high winds; the tent didn't even flap around too much.
I think, for this sort of money, there should be a vision panel in the front door, but that's a minor niggle as there are four other 'windows' with blinds.
To sum up: a nice tent but then it should be for the money. Robens is supposedly the Oase Outdoors Company's premium brand above Outwell - I'm not so sure. In my opinion there are other equivalent products equally as good as the Double Dawn for less money, many with much sturdier steel poles, and ground sheets that fit!

Manufacturer's Description
The new Double Dawn is a more comfortable further development of our successful Double Dreamer. Occupying virtually the same area, this tent provides considerably more volume in the inner tent due to its steeper sides. The whole flysheet is closed at the bottom with a zip-out groundsheet, so that wind, pests and dust are kept out of the tent. The large window means the inner tent is light whilst providing a good view out. The high quality, thick-section light-metal poles ensure high stability.
