1 Reviews of the Kirby 500
By: Deaniebeanie Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
I bought my Kirby as a used tent off Ebay for a snip at £80. It's in great condition, like new, and I can't believe how spacious it is for a 5 man tent. The living are is great, loads of room easily for 5 people to sit in as well as table etc. Takes me around 20 minutes to pitch fully and peg down and I'm a 5 ft 2 lady. I find doing the dome section first and getting that standing before you do the 2 other poles that form the bedroom area is the easiest way to put it up. The poles part of erecting it takes around 5-10 minutes then another 10 minutes to peg out. Comes in a decent size bag too so no problems getting it back in. Has a handy cable tidy if you want to lead an electric light from the centre hanging hook and the general EHU zipper, full mesh inner door on one side and another doorway on the opposite. Lovely big windows in the living area with fold down curtains for privacy.
The only reason I've given the Kirby 8/10 is because the sleeping area is quite small compared to the living area. I had 2 fold out steel tubed camp beds in it and there wasn't much room for another. You may get 3 of the 4 leg type camp beds in or a couple of double airbeds/maybe 4-5 small SIMs but as it slopes at the back it is a bit cramped at times if a few of you in there at once. If you are a couple who wants loads of living space or a small family then it is a great tent. Plenty of living area to sit in on a wet day. Shame the 500 is now discontinued but you can still get some good deals on Ebay or the 400 version at Argos.

Manufacturer's Description
The Vango Kirby 500 tent provides budget campsite accomodation from one of the UK’s leading tent brands. The Kirby 500 combines a tunnel style tent for the sleeping area with a domed living area to maximise head height where it matters. Indeed the dome living section has crossed fibreglass poles which makes for a stable tent and provides a large living area of 3.2m x 2.6m. U shaped doors on either side of the tent form entrances and give good ventilation options when the sun is shining .
Large PVC windows provide plenty of light and have privacy covers for night times. The Vango Kirby 500 sleeps five people in a single compartment and early morning comfort is improved with ‘lights out’ fabric on the inner tent which screens out some of the early morning light. In inclement weather, the ProTex 3000 70D polyester flysheet keeps the rain out and it can be erected first to keep the inner dry in the rain. The Kirby 500 includes lots of Vango’s regular features such as orange guylines, raingutters on the zips and storage pockets on the inner.
The Vango Kirby 500 tent is a great choice for families who want a tent from a reputable brand and good quality features without breaking the bank. Check below how much you can save when purchasing a Vango Kirby 500 tent with our price comparison chart showing low prices.
