By: Taffyp Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
Just taken ownership of our Havana 6 and we are thrilled with it. Have erected it in back garden and it went up relatively easily (although it did take an hour on our first go!). It does require 2 people to erect and we did have fun trying to hold 2 sets of poles at the same time to avoid them crashing down! However it is pretty straightforward once you get the knack. The Royal web page pdf instructions are not as detailed as they could be, and leave alot to the imagination.
Packing the tent away was very easy and was completed within 20 minutes.(We didn't bother with the instructions this time!)
We did take a gamble buying this tent as we could find no outlet who had this erected in a showroom. Even after my husband had marked out its footprint in the garden we were pleasantly surprised when the tent arrived.
The tent is well made. The outer materials, zips etc feel strong and robust. We viewed several other well known makes in our search and found some to feel quite cheap and flimsy. The Royal is not.
Inside there is so much space! We are a family of 4 (4 yr old twins) and I felt I needed a larger living space. However I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of the living space is usable within the Havana. You can stand up in all areas of the living space as the head room is great. My husband is 6ft tall and can just about touch the roof to hang the lantern on the attached ceiling loop.
As a result, the tent feels airy and the large front window and side windows let in a lot of light.
The tent comes supplied with extra poles so a porch can be made by opening up the large front window. However there is no insect mesh on this window/door unlike the others.
We have found 1 EHU zipped opening so far and also 1 in the inner tent.
We were hoping to use the dividing walls in the inner tent to separate us from the kids but will probably not bother as there does not seem to be a 50:50 configuration, as the inner tent is designed to be separated into thirds.
All in all as a ardent caravanner, who was not at all looking forward to camping, I can't wait to have some good holidays in our new Royal Havana 6.
