We bought this as our first family tent just in time for the wettest summer for 30 years… On our first outing, we didn’t open up the air vents, meaning that the combination of constant rain plus 5 people led to a LOT of condensation on the inside. Thankfully, we decided to give it another go before returning it as ‘leaky’ and never had the same problem again (open those vents!).

For only a couple with a toddler, the size of this tent could be considered overkill, but we think it’s perfect. The divider for the bedroom pods can be rolled up out of the way, meaning the wee one (about to become two) can be with us without sacrificing our own bed space. The other two bedrooms we currently use as a ‘guest’ pod and a storage pod, though you could unclip and remove them. The living room (and this is the only way to describe it) is large enough for a table, 4 chairs and a playspace for a rugrat. Having such a large porch means you get a cooking area and boot store in HALF the space, leaving the outermost half as grass (we fold the bathtub groundsheet) to stop the rain from puddling and running over the whole area.

We bought the carpet and the windbreak. Haven’t used the windbreak yet – it seems a bit superfluous. The carpet, on the other hand, is excellent. Makes the living area warmer and is a must-have for families with children who spend more time on the floor than anywhere else. Spills aren’t a problem – liquid just sits on top of the carpet waiting for you to wander along with a cloth – and the whole thing packs up easier than our picnic blanket.

Pitching is ok with 2 adults – can be done in about 45 minutes. The footprint groundsheet (again, a must-buy) is a great idea as I can’t imagine trying to hose down the bottom of the tent! The only bugbear is getting everything back in the bag – a couple of times we’ve given up and repacked when we got home.

This tent has converted me from hating the very sound of the word ‘camping’ to fervently wishing we were going away in it this weekend, even if the baby is due on Monday!
