10 Reviews of the Wyoming 4
By: Swalsh6850 Reason: I've used one Made in: 2010 Rating:
We have a Wyoming 4 and a front extension. We took it to Cornwall for a week where we endured force 7 gales and rain like you've never seen. Other tents were ripping and people abandoning the site. We endured, dry and happy in our tent. It was sturdy in the high winds, dry in the rain, especially with the extension out front and this with a quality PVC groundsheet fashioned with bungees to form a bathtub like floor too. The front windbreak shown in the picture was too flimsy for the storm but was replaced with a tarp also attached to the front extension and pegged to the ground, to help keep the extension floor dry. Worked a treat. They don't make this anymore but if you can pick one up second hand - do so

This tent is almost indestructible! we have used this for 2 years now and have had thunder storms, hail , strong winds , snow.
Once we stayed in Northumberland and the whole campsite left because of the bad weather and ours was dry as a bone all week. We have 2 little boys that push and pull it around all day.
Bad points are as said before the doors are rubbish when raining so use an extension which is expensive or as I do is a tarp tied to the front poles and use the poles out the gaming wall to make a canopy.
I cant camp without a carpet either as it changes that living area in bad weather .

Excellent tent for a family weekend away (two adults + two small children). Strong + waterproof against bad weather plus enough height for 6ft plus to stand in! Recommend you add a carpet too as children like to play inside.
Note: this is the previous model to Outwells Minnisotta so can be expanded with new extensions etc. I found it as a 'return to store unused' on Ebay for £80!

We bought this tent for extended trips. It wouldn't be the first choice for a weekend, as per the manufacturer's description, as it's so big. It's great having the space to sit down inside free from rain or insects.
The tent has stood up to some bad weather, although we missed the worst it endured (a storm on the Isle of Man) as we were in a pub five miles away. There is a slight problem with condensation but nothing too bad.

Bought off Ebay store as it was a return due to missing tie for one of the doors!.(£87!)
Excellent 'weekend tent' for family of four - also bought Outwell side extension (not for Wyoming, but still fitted) which is recommended if you want somewhere to cook/leave shoes etc etc. With a carpet added provides enough space for kids to play inside :-)

After viewing many tents and reading reviews, we settled for an Outwell tent. The standard of construction is a cut above cheaper tents. The Wyoming is a perfect size for our family of three.
Our tent has withstood high winds and heavy rain over a 24 hour period, without leaking or any sign of problems.
Its easy to put up with 2 people, taking on average about 20 minutes all in. Taking the tent down again was straightforward too. It is however quite bulky when packed, so make sure you check it will fit in your car before you buy!
I think that a groundsheet should be included however, and not be an optional extra. We purchased a non branded groundsheet that was a lot more cost effective than the Outwell item.
A great tent. Buy with confidence.

Bought this tent reduced on ebay because my missus refused to crawl into my hardcore backpacker tent but wanted a spacious one where you can stand up. It is as heavy as a bag of bricks but pitches surprisingly quick and easy, is fully rainproof and very stable once you have binned the barmy cheap pegs and got proper ones. We use it with our little son and find it spacy enough and very comfy indeed.
The only but really major disadvantage has been mentioned before: it doesn't have porches over the entrance doors, which means that you can't leave the doors open in the rain and, even worse, you have water dripping into the tent every time you go through the doors. I just hadn't realised how important such a door canopy is when I looked for a tent.
Would we buy it again? Probably not, although it is a splendid tent otherwise, but we'd rather look for a model with a sheltered entrance.

Bought the Wyoming 4 as a starter tent for our family - 2 adults and 2 young kids. It is cramped when all your stuff is in, but it is fully waterproof and stable, proved in a recent torrential storm in the Lakes when 2 other tents on our site collapsed.Only paid £110 so well worth the money. You can now get an official extension for it, but we opted for a Montana 4 canopy which fits. You can get brand new one on eBay for £40. With a windbreak it's just the job! Already looking at the Montana 6 though for next season

Bought this tent towards the end of last Summer for less than half price. I agree with all of the previous comments - great tent for two but the lack of a rain safe porch on any of the doors was quite a problem in last summers very heavy rain in Devon! Unfortunately there is no add on porch to fit this tent which would solve the problem. I believe that the Minnesota porch would fit but is now discontinued
There is only one entry point for EHU which is a little restricting.
This a great tent - sturdy and cosy and no leaks but you can not have any of the doors open when it is raining. Had I thought about the doors I would not have bought it, just glad I did not pay the full price.

The Wyoming 4 is basically the Minnesota 4 without the rain-safe door. We (2 adults and 1 terrier dog)camped in the Lake District late September.
The tent, with the footprint was easy to pitch, although it took both of us due to the weight of the metal poles.
The weather was very wet and windy, this tent stood up to everything. Inside it was very comfortable, being well ventilated, the usual damp clamminess of polyester was eliminated. The front section was light and spacious. Here we placed a table and 2 comfy chairs on the carpet and watched the world go by with a mug of chocolate.
We used one sleeping pod with a double airbed, leaving the other side down for storage. The fully sealed in groundsheet prevented the dog from tunnelling her way out as well as keeping us dry, draught and bug free. We did however find she could get out of the doors by pushing the velcro at the bottom if the inner mesh door was not fully zipped here.
This tent oozes Outwell features and quality with good storage, headroom and usable space.
The downside is that although it has 3 doors, not one has a rain-safe canopy which meant in a downpour we had to crawl in and out of a partially open door to avoid puddles inside.
We did not use the game set included in the package, but maybe would have if the weather had been kind.
This tent was purchase in an end of season sale with the footprint and carpet included for less than half the rrp of the tent alone. Would we have paid full price for this tent? probably not, but we are well pleased with it and look forward to camping in it next year.
