We have just come back from a curtailed holiday in Pembrokeshire as a result of this tent.

Firstly the positives:

Setting up was relatively easy (even with quite a high wind blowing).

Very spacious with plenty of storage and useful hanging points for fans or lights

Looks great

That’s about it I’m afraid

And now the negatives

The metal eyelets of the internal tent didn’t match to those of the footprint groundsheet

The internal tent is far to stretched when hung, as a result we kept everything about a foot from the wall in case it ripped.

When it rained we found that the vents above the side windows leaked and we had to leave the blackout curtain in place to prevent the inner tent from getting wet.

The sleeping area has a light ceiling which means you’re woken up at daybreak!

To stop draughts and rain from getting into the sleeping area I had to peg the guys for the vents straight down and re-peg them outwards when the rain / wind had stopped. Not exactly the most user friendly feature.

The biggest flaw for us was water seepage into the tent from the ground. This was in both the living area AND the sleeping areas. As a result our daughter woke up on our (as it turned out) last morning dripping wet from he sleeping bag soaking up the water.

At that point enough was enough and we came home. I have spoken to the company I bought it off and they are replacing this tent with an Outwell Montana 6 which should arrive this week. Hopefully we will have better luck with it – especially after reading the rave reviews for it on this site.

As a result of all these problems I cannot rate this tent at all.

We bought a Sprayway Valley 6 before reading any reviews because it looked like the kind of tent we wanted. I then found this site and the reviews and was a little apprehensive. We used it for the first time a couple of weekends ago and must admit that my fears were quashed. It did take a while to put up but it was the first time we had done this so I imagine this process will get quicker with experience. The tent went up well with none of the problems experienced by other owners. The only slight criticism was some tightness putting the inner tent toggles through the O-rings. It did feel tight but no major lifting of the SIG. The tent is very roomy and comfortable and even though it didn't pour down we had some rain overnight and no leaks! The side storage area was very useful for outdoor gear such as our cooker but I wouldn't put clothes and the like in there as there is no SIG in the side annex so they could get damp. The amount of storage is incredible with a pocket and a place for everything. The foot locker was useful for keeping shoes tidy without littering up the porch area. If anything the SIG feels a bit thin and I would worry about sitting on our table / chair thingy as I feel the feet could puncture the SIG - my brother-in-law is 6' 3' and getting on for 20 stone so strictly outside I think. The actual packed weight of the tent is immense but I would imagine all big family tents weight similar with the metal poles. Overall, so far, we are very happy with our purchase and it does look smart when pitched. It turned a few head with positive comments.

There are many positive things to say about this tent, for such a big tent it was straightforward to pitch, withstood a heavy downpour with no leaks and seemed solid in some pretty strong winds. The space inside the main living area was fantastic (although the porch was a little on the small size). The tent has some really excellent touches inside such as the curtains all drop down in to their own pockets so no messing about rolling and tieing them up. Adjacent to the doors are pockets to stuff the door in to out of the way when opened fully so again no rolling/tieing back needed. There are small low level access doors (zipped) from the bedrooms into the wardrobe/storage area which is another nice idea.

However, the negatives really outweigh the positives in our experience of this tent.

The main issue we had was that the inner tent didn't fit properly - after hooking it into the flysheet the sig ended up about about 4 inches off the ground along the external edges of the middle section of the tent. This was putting a lot of pressure on the fasteners which hook the SIG to the base of the flysheet (to the point where a small tear actually appeared on the SIG where the fastener is sewn on to it). Also, it meant that the wind was able to blow under the groundsheet itself which obviously isn’t good.

We also ordered the footprint groundsheet but the problem I found with this is that it didn't have the corresponding metal eyelets in the porch where the main entrance to the tent is and also where the smaller front storage area is pegged down (the porch area in the SIG has these). This meant that all the strain for the whole front half of the SIG was on the 2 corner eyelets in the porch and as a result both of which ended up ripping (which also makes me question the quality of the groundsheet).

Lastly, we also found the large vents in the sleeping pods to be a big problem as they can't be closed off. It was quite windy at the weekend and the wind was blowing under the skirts of the flysheet and straight into the sleeping pods through the vents – its really quite strange that every single air vent / window in the main tent can be closed off to prevent draughts except the 4 in the sleeping pods - this seems a huge oversight from Sprayway. It would be fine if you only go camping abroad or in the warm weather but as we only camp in the UK from late spring to early autumn, this is a big problem for us.

I am really dissapointed with this tent - more so because it could have been amazing if not for the problems I have mentioned above.

I really hope Sprayway take note of the feedback from the problems people have had with these tents and recitfy them for next years models.

If not for the problems I would have rated this tent a 9 but as it is, 5 is the highest I could go.

I dont know what the previous guy is on about with most of his comments, I have this tent and it is brilliant, easy to pitch and withstood a heavy downpour with winds in the Yorkshire dales. I'd never go camping with a large tent on an island (ie Anglesey) anyhow as the winds are usually very harsh after previous encounters of the dreaded Shell Island (a dump!)

We have just come back from Angelsey. Whilst there we had heavy rain one day and when we got back to the tent, the rain was pouring through the windows and pooling on the floor. It affected every window and the side porch roof. We took it back today and got a full refund, although they wanted to send it back to sprayway first but the guy who dealt with us was great and got us a refund.

We felt the tent was difficult to pitch due to the weight and it would be worse in strong wind, but that is just our opinion.

We could not get the tent to sit straight over the corner bars equally because when we used the tension straps they pulled the tent back into the wrong place which meant the inners were really difficult to fasten and the bedroom on the right was 2 inches off the floor.

The tent couldn't be attatched to the footprint groundsheet because it was out of sync with the tent.

We left our chairs under the canopy (in the middle) and they had pools of water in them. I know its only a dining canopy but it has a 5000hh so should not be leaking.

When you see this tent in the flesh it really is a good looking tent, but as it let me down so badly I feel it wouldn't be right to rate it at all. Hope others fair better than we did with thiers.
