7 Reviews of the Vardo 10

Bought this tent in 2006. Has done a number of family holidays. When we got it the bag was broken and we rang up and they sent us a replacement bag.

The tent was a bargain. But it is an absolute monster in wind, if you pitch it the right way, it handles wind no problem, however, we found out to our cost this weekend if you don't pitch it the right way the poles snap.

An OK family tent for £70! :)

I am completely confused as to what to do with the alu poles. HELP! S1lversurfer, on erecting my Vardo 10, use of the alu poles hasn't become clear! How do you use them????? I would be really really grateful for any help. Thanks. Instructions are absolutely awful - they mention the ploes in the list of components but not in the actual instructions themselves. Probably OK for a seasoned camper with a brain for technical stuff, but not for poor me! If anyone can help me I would be very grateful.

Bought ours from E Bay. Puzzled by the instructions as it didn't mention the metal poles. However on erecting all became clear. There were just the 2 of us to erect as we had brought our grandchildren camping so we were VERY grateful when fellow campers helped us pitch the tent. Although sheltered there was a fair wind blowing and as the guy ropes come separately and were not readily available and attached that created a little more problem for us. Next time will be that bit easier having left them attached. (hopefully)

The first night blew a gale but we were warm, snug and unaffected by the wind. The grandchildren slept through.

We have camped for years but not in the last 20 years!

We liked the design and the use of 2 types of poles (rigid and fibreglass. This was a test run for next year and for the 4 of us it was very roomy. Still plenty of room for the 3rd grandchild to join us next year.

I brought my Rage tent through ebay, Tentastic was the agent. So far the tent has been used on two occasions, both within the confines of my back garden, on the first occasion Immediately after delivery in September last year I put the tent up to check it and it remained up in reasonable weather for just 3 nights when I took it down for storage, the only damage was to one of the elastic supports that suspend the inner tent from the flysheet. The stitching pulled away and it became detached, but a needle and thread soon sorted that problem, I did not see it as cause for concern.

I pulled the tent out of storage one week ago to check it as I'm due to attend a local arts festival for three nights at the start of August. I left the tent up all week as my children wanted to sleep in it last weekend, However on Friday evening the weather which was quite wet, went down hill rapidly with winds building to gale force, combined with torrential rain, so that I would not have felt happy with them spending the night in it. On going to bed I looked out of my bedroom window and noticed that the roof appeared to hanging to one side so I went out to check. The bases of the two innermost poles one the one side had clearly been blown off the pins which are connected to the webbing straps at the base of the tent, this had caused the poles to kick outward and the tents rigidity was lost. I repositioned the poles, and then entered the tent, I used the four guy ropes that are used for the porch poles and connecting them to the rings that are used for hanging the inner tents and crossing them across the centre of the tent I was able to increase the tents rigidity considerably although this caused the 2 central fibreglass roof poles to curve up considerably, it had had the desired effect of keeping the tent stable, and the poles remained on their respective pins at their feet.

I decided to remain in the tent for the remainder of the night, sleep was nigh on impossible the rain was hammering so loudly, and yet I remained perfectly dry although I elected to spend the whole night in the central, or living area of the tent. My improvised strengthening worked so well that I'm fitting the extra guys internally so that they can be utilised should similar weather strike again. The only other lessons learnt were that I should purchase a supply of stouter and longer pegs to fasten her down as replacement for the steel pegs provided, something I usually do whenever I buy a tent, and if Rage could find some manner of locking the poles to the webbing base, to step them kicking out so easily, I'm sure this would be appreciated.

The acid test is yet to come at the start of August when I'll be out in the open of the Presseli Mountains for 3 nights, I'll let you know the outcome!

Bought this tent from tentastic on ebay for £65.00 delivered. We have a large family (2 adults and 6 children) and this tent has taken us on four holidays. It has withstood torrential rain without even a drip and was very easy to put up and take down. Unfortunately, on trip number 5, we had winds gusting to 65mph, and before we could get the tent down two poles snapped. Have tried to get replacements but not succeeded yet! Overall a very good tent, but beware in very high winds!

Do agree with other reviews that the central groundsheet is a very odd shape but this does not affect the tent in any way.

I purchased a Vardo 10 last spring (2007) from an ebay shop (they claim to be the only UK distributor and I've not found them elsewhere). I bought it on auction for £65 inc. P&P so a real bargain. Due to the poor weather, we only took it out twice and it seemed fine especially when considering the price we paid. When I unpacked it prior to use I found 2 broken pole clips (plastic jobbys that hang the tent off the poles) I contacted the supplier and they offered to send replacements - these took about 5 weeks to arrive and they need to be stiched onto the tent - the tent is fine without them anyway so I haven't bothered. I would recommend this tent as a cheap entry tent which is why we bought it - it probably won't handle too much weather but it's cheap, roomy and adequate for the fair weather camper.

Not good in strong winds- seemed easy enough to erect, plenty of space and versatile with 3 door openings.

Main ground sheet lose but odd shape in comparison with tent layout, inner tents all had inbuilt ground sheets which were great. However, one big gust of wind and a pole snapped in two, along with fibre glass pole splintering and rear guide tab stitching coming undone.

Managed some damage limitation to get through the night but clearly not good as the 1st time it was used.

Have emailed supplier regarding issues and hoping I will get satisfactory reply.

Was a bargain but would still like to have said it was worth the bargain price just glad I did not pay full price then I would have been pee'd off.
