Clearlite Lamp - Mosquito / Midge Repellent

The Technical Part!

Clearlite is a company whose central aim is to provide products that can make ones environment free from annoying and often dangerous flying insects-particularly the mosquito. The aim of all products is that they are safe, effective and affordable. These products do NOT need electricity. They use simple, tried and approved (government tested) methods.

The Clearlite Original Oil Lamp is super tough, it can be knocked over, accidentally dropped, even held upside down whilst alight with no spillage, leaks or ill effects, making this one of the safest lamps on the market.

The lamp comes complete with a clear windshield lens, made of engineering polymer, which incredibly stays cool to touch, even after hours of it being lit.

The lamps comes complete with an aluminium mat holder, and this is positioned close to the flame. This holds the insecticide mats, which when heated slowly release vapours and keeps the midges away, each mat last for around 8 hours.

The lamp comes with a rubber stopper which needs to be firmly replaced onto the brass wick funnel after each use. This avoids oil seepage and keeps the wick moist, you can even keep the rubber stopper inside the lens during use to avoid losing it!

The lamp has a quality brass wick funnel with the wick set at the optimum height, and it will last for thousands of hours if kept moist.

The screw on replaceable oil reservoir is available in green and contains Clearlites Pure Lamp / Torch Oil for 60+ hours of both smokeless and odourless clean burning flame. Alternatively you can top it up with Clearlite Pure Touch Oil or Citronella Oil.

What did we think?

The product arrived nicely packaged and very promptly. After a quick read of the instructions we put the lamp together very simply and lit the wick easily. We tested this out at Wicksteed Park, and we were pitched quite close to the lake so we felt the full force of the midges! Whilst setting up the midges were everywhere and beginning to wind me up. So once set up, we pulled out the lamp and set it going. The evening from there on was pretty much midge free, so something was working! There were seven of us and we had the lamp in the centre of the group circle and we all enjoyed a peacful midge free night.

We tried turning it upside down, dropping it on the floor, throwing and catching it, and it performs as well as the manufacturers claim and we did not get burnt, lose any oil or have any disasters at all.

We are afraid that the previous supplier of these is no longer able to source them, we are seeking a new source
