Bailey Caravans have recently announced a brand new addition to their range, with some innovative new features, especially it's Alu-Tech Body Shell which is causing quite a stir, so we thought we'd find out more!
So what is the Alu-Tech Body Shell?
In the early 1980s sandwich construction body shell panels were first included in caravan production and design. Later the same decade these were supplemented by the addition of front and rear exterior plastic panels.
This basic design has not changed for thirty years and whilst it has served us well in that period it is not without its drawbacks. In the interim period general vehicle design technology has advanced considerably.
Consequently Bailey posed the question is there a better way?
Well, they say they've come up with one! According to Bailey, the Alu-Tech body shell construction system is the most significant development in caravan production technology for over thirty years. They've produced a construction system that is so unique that it has necessitated the commissioning of over 100 bespoke tools to build it and that features a design so advanced that it has 5 new patents pending.
Thicker body shell panels, featuring superior grade polystyrene, plus extra insulation to pipe runs and wheel boxes means the thermal properties of the vehicle are greatly enhanced, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer, as well as making your caravan more economical to own.
A new design interlocking external framework helps reduce the number of external joints and fixing points by 90%, thus minimising the number of potential water access points and improving the overall integrity of the protective shell. While timber free body shell panels, featuring a composite plastic internal skeleton and low absorbency buffer zones surrounding windows and doors, offer a second line of defence limiting the impact any possible ingress may cause.
In one of the more spectular examples of the new design's strength, Bailey lifted the test car onto the roof of the caravan as well as Managing Director Nick Howard! The result of the design programme provides numerous benefits of ownership most notably a market leading ten year body shell integrity guarantee.
The Bailey Pegasus
The first caravan to be built using this new technology is the Bailey Pegasus.
However the new Bailey Pegasus is so much more than just a high
performance body shell. It looks good too. The aero-dynamic body profile, colour coded aluminium
extrusions, and the clean exterior lines afforded by single piece side walls
and flush fit windows and service locker doors combine to provide a look
that announces you travel and arrive in style. While practical touches such
as twin wet locker storage compartments and LED lit front and rear grab
handles make the operation of the vehicle a more user-friendly experience.
Innovation does not stop at the entrance door either.
The first thing you will notice when you step inside is the feeling of extra
space. This is created by an increase in internal headroom which is now,
thanks to the flat panel roof construction, a market leading 1.96m (65)
throughout the length of the caravan. The unique Alu-Tech body shell profile
also produces extra room at the front of the caravan resulting in a more
spacious lounge, featuring a window shelf wide enough to become a dedicated
television station.
New design lift up front bed boxes, that give unrivalled access to ground
level storage, also incorporate dual purpose slide out units that as foot
rests by day and sturdy, easy to operate bed bases by night.
A versatile multi-position modular lounge allows you to site an optional
chest of drawer unit, featuring a re-engineered pull out occasional table,
in a number of different locations to create a configuration to suit your
own individual lounging, dining and sleeping requirements.
Interiors are as elegant as they are practical with a suite of beautiful
floating fascia overhead lockers complemented by streamlined furniture units
featuring flush fit doors whilst three contemporary new soft furnishing
schemes, that now include sculpted arm and back rests, to provide the
perfect blend of style and comfort.
The specification list reflects the aspirational nature of the product and
features everything you will need for relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Notably this includes updated kitchen appliances and a new branded
freestanding home entertainment system incorporating a 15 flat screen
television and DVD player.
Plus to ensure your investment is well protected Pegasus comes complete with
the TRACKER Monitor Stolen Vehicle Recovery System and an AL-KO Secure
portable wheel lock as standard.
All of which makes Pegasus the complete caravan - a caravan which Bailey believe
is set to re-define the outdoor leisure vehicle for ever.
