Nightsearcher Lanterns

Each lantern that we were given to test underwent the same testing methods, with the length of charging being equal and the same tests in the different environments. We were promised three very durable rechargeable lanterns that would be ideally suited to the wonderful world of caravan and camping and although each have their own great features and benefits, the whole trio came up trumps, find out more.......

Endurance Rechargeable Handlamp

The Nightsearcher Endurance is a very economical and compact rechargeable hand lamp. The Endurance can be charged from both AC Mains and a vehicle charger, giving optimum performance whilst away. Its powerful Krypton spot beam is 300% brighter than a normal torch and is moulded in a tough shock resistant casing making the endurance weather proof..  The Endurance can be recharged up to 1000 times giving many years of useful service and you should never be cut short for light as it has a battery protection cut-out, meaning if you doze off whilst using the lamp it switches itself off to preserve the battery. It has a low battery warning indicator, to show when the battery is running out.

My thoughts

The Nightsearcher Endurance is a compact, lightweight hand lamp that is ideal for keeping around the house or in your unit. If you have a tent the Endurance is perfect, it is small, packs neatly away, if it accidentally gets switched on it turns itself off before the battery goes completely flat and is suitable to charge in the car. Even if you have no means to charge the Endurance whilst away, as long as it is fully charged on arrival you will easily get enough light for a couple of nights of camping.

Camping Lantern

The Nightsearcher Camping Lantern is the ideal camping companion, giving an all round bright light from its energy saving 7 watt compact fluorescent tube. It operates for up to 8 hours from a single charge and with its remote control key fob can be operated from a distance of 10 metres. The robust unit produces a 360 degree illumination. Supplied together with a mains and vehicle charger, this is a genuine and versatile accessory for campers and fishermen, for use in greenhouses, garden sheds, remote stables or for emergencies / repairs.

My thoughts

The Nightsearcher Camping Lantern is a small tough unit that gave off a very good light for a long period of time. It is lightweight and easy to store and the vehicle charger will fit easily in a door pocket or glove box. The remote control unit clips onto the handle so there is less chance of loosing it when in storage. The lantern is ideal for lighting up the tent or awning to give enough light to play games, read books or generally create a nice atmosphere. I was very impressed with the remote control facility and found it to be sensitive and work easily from a fair distance, be warned though it does drain the battery a little when left for long periods because the infra red is activated.

Multi Function Lantern

The Nightsearcher Multi Function is a 9 watt rechargeable fluorescent lantern that is a good looking, robust unit that produces a generous 360 degree, 3 ½ hrs duration light. There is also a bright halogen light that can be set to either static or flashing mode and to shine through either a white or yellow screen. The unit can be operated manually or by using its wide angle infra red remote controller. There is even a red flashing LED in the dome to help find it in the dark. The MF Lantern features an innovative carrying handle that folds down to form a solid base plate and the lamp can be hung upside down on hooks that are included. Supplied together with a mains and a vehicle charger, this is a genuine and versatile accessory for campers and fishermen, for use in greenhouses, garden sheds, remote stables or for road side emergencies / repairs. An ideal unit to carry in the car boot just in case!

My thoughts

The Nightsearcher MF Lantern is larger than the Endurance and the Camping Lantern and is perhaps more suited for use in the car or caravan rather than for the tenter or hiker. The remote control unit makes life easier when returning to your unit in the dark and a simple press of the button and you have light, again the battery will drain a little quicker when the lantern is on standby. The MF Lantern gives off plenty of light and did a great job of lighting up our awning. It is certainly powerful enough to read and play games. Also ideal to carry around in the boot of the car as a safety lantern.

Overall

From the three it is difficult to choose which is most practical as it all comes down to what you will be using the lantern for. Each is unique in its own field and perform brilliantly. As a camper with lack of space I would go for the Camping Lantern, it is smaller easier to pack and the battery lasts for 6 - 8 hours, very handy if you have no car or electric to charge it up. The MF Lantern is perfect to keep in the boot of the car, ready for that emergency and great for the caravan awning where you have more space to store it and charge it up. As a torch, the handlamp is superb, giving off a powerful beam for a very long time making it the perfect companion on those dark nights for that stroll to the toilets.
