Hi Webby, Ratty, is ther a full size awning or are they all porch awnings or driveaways. Not about to replace ours again at the moment, took ages to get one from the same era as the van, but having looked through the shop I could not make out if any of them were full fitting?

Has anyone used the Easi-porch yet? - it looks stronger that the Scenic? any pictures of it in burgundy available yet?

I'm really interested in your post as I too suffered a similar fate with my Scenic. Did you complain to the retailer or Sunncamp? Would you mind mailing me: dweeks007 at hotmail.com.
Many thanks

New Rangers, I have sent you an email with the full story, but basically i tried both Towsure and Sunnflair who manufacture the Scenic. If they say it's wind damage, you have to prove that you are innocent! It got uncomfortable with threats of me having to foot the courier bills etc so i let it drop in the end. Sunnflair had a massive backlog of returns and didn't have any confidence in them helping.
Lesson for the future - Sunnflair porch awnings are only for use in calm, fair weather - which just about rules them out for use in the uk by my reckoning! Sunnflair advidsed me that i had to take it down if it got windy!! You can imagine all scenic owners in the middle of the night taking them down when it gets windy!
Cheers

I have been reading all your comments on the porch awnings and it has definately convinced us to get one. So we went ahead and ordered the easi porch awning last night. Cannot wait to get it and give it a try, on our first trip away in the Caravan.

We ordered our Easi-Porch awning on Friday night after reading all the excellent reviews. It was delivered first thing this morning (Tuesday). Now is that good service or what? I have had it all out and it looks brills, cannot wait to try it out. I read in a previous post what the pole with the plastic clip and plastic covered ends was for and it was replied that it was for the roof of the awning to give it support. Could anyone tell me if there is a channel for this to slide through?. Many thanks to all involved.

Yes, there is a pocket sewn in to the roof at each end, put the pole in, and extend it until it is tight, then lock it

Next time our confortmatics up I'm measuring up for one! What should I check as I've never bought a porch awning i'm guessing it would be height from rail to ground and where the porch awning would come width wise in relation to any windows/towing hitch. Is that correct? Help anyone??!!

After reading all your posts we've decided to buy an easi porch ourselves! In the past we've had a conventional porch awning - these have the poles that come down the sides between the van and the awning with padding to wrap round them to stop the drafts. Do you get any drafts whipping through these as they don't have the poles and padding? Thanx. Bev.
Posted By: Webmaster
Date Posted: 07/3/2006 at 4:55pm
Poppi, yes they are the measurements you will need!
Bev, in my experience you get a pretty good seal against the side of the van (with a bit of adjustment) to prevent wind getting in.
Hope that helps,
Ian

We used our Movelite awning for the first time last weekend. It was great. No problems putting it up, although being novices we maybe could have done a better job when pegging it.
No worries though it stood up to a bit of snow the first night and strong winds the second. It gave us so much more room and it will get used all the time. It is worth taking even for one or two nights because it doesn't take long to put up and is so light. All in all we are really pleased with it.
I have put two pictures in our gallery. image: - http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/1.gif

used our porch awning for the first time, it went up quick and is great, would recommend this one, just one tip that Joe told me was to twist the storm straps, then they don't make that flapping sound in the night.

We are waying up a porch awning to replace our full one. As our dogs sleep in it we will want one of the larger ones. Regarding the Easi and Compactalite how do they stand up to windy wet weather...???
Is the big Scenic ones not as wind resistant as the above...???

PS: Waiting to get one and cut down on van weight & back pain... :^: .

I used the compactalite a couple of weeks ago at a site in Brean Sands and it was blowing an absolute blinking gail the whole time and the awning stood up very well, it has four storm straps which did their job spot on!
I have got the Easi Porch up at the moment on the caravan, but it is not that windy today, however it was quite windy yesterday and this also stood up very well in the wind, however it is not as windy here as it was in Brean.

We had our Porchlite plus up for first time last week in Ayr.
Absolute sinch to erect and put away,,,,,,,, Used Delta pegs rather than the wire ones and some rock pegs.
Endured 60mph + winds and driving rains no problem, no flapping on the sides of the van....... for a small porch there was still adequate room for a shoe rack, cool box, bin, and folding chair with easy passage.
What a fantastic product, I was worried when I saw the forecasted winds but now have bags of confidence in it.

What model are you looking at/
The porchlite wouldnt be suitable as it would hold snow on the top between the crossover poles if the snow was heavy, the comactlite should shed the snow because of its domed pitch. Im sure Daniel may be able to give a more positive answer

Hi there,
Bardsea Leisure in Cumbria and Lowdhams in Huddersfield have both scraped snow from the roof of our products over the last winter. The Easi Porch has held the most snow we've ever seen on a lightweight porch and there were other makes there that didnt withstand the downpour.
I would put the Easi porch first, then Compactalite and then Porchlite - with my only worry about the Porchlite being the tension on the poles and the possibility of damaged caused by addedd weight. Rain doesnt effect them because it runs off but snow has far more chance of collecting on the roof and thus the steel pole of the Easi Porch and the dome shame of the Compactalite will be much better against the weight.
Hope this helps and happy skiing.
Thanks,
Daniel.

If you are after an Easiporch in Blue or Burgundy, I recommend you order today (Friday 12th , or tomorrow Sat 13th ) as these will be out of stock from Monday for a couple of weeks. The Easiporch in green is in stock though but with limited numbers, so dont delay if you are after one

I can't wait until next Monday to try it out. Never had any kind of awning before so could someone suggest what I do with the gap under the caravan to retain the mutt. He's only a pekinese and very well behaved so anything light would do the job. Any ideas would be most welcome. Is there anything on the market specifically for the job. Thanks & kind regards Nigel.

We bought an easi-porch earlier in the year, originally green but a week later, burgundy was advertised. contacted uk campsite, a swap no problem. thats the good bit. My wife and have been camping for over 20 years, the first fifteen under canvas the last 5 in a van. We have tried to erect the easi porch on two occassions, both unsuccessfully. On the first it was very windy, we gave up and managed without, on the second we gave up after an hour and put up the full awning! Does anyone have any advice or instructions that are better than those included. Finally the single pole does not extend, whatever it is for anyway, we couldnt work out at the time, but the threads seem to imply its for the roof.

hi daijames
your not the only one havin trouble !!!
we got ours for weekends to save puttin up the big awning, also its quicker to dry. we tried it at the storage so we had an idea how to erect it----not to bad but it was only a trial so didnt peg it down.
went out at easter 1st time using it ---- oh my god the ground for the awning wasnt level what a job we had(my parents had got there van and they had there dorema porch awning up before we got ours presentable)
went out 2nd time at may day, just the same i was ready to just take it down and leave it down.
the things i find should be different are the support pole should be adjustable at the bottom to allow for uneven ground , the support bar that fits in the 2 pockets in the roof does not allow the water to drain (cus we woke to find approx 2 litres of water collected in the roof)
hope someone replies to us.

Not sure when these were bought but the Easi Porches manufactured the start of 2006 have a drain hole at the start front of the awning which means water doesnt collect. It would seem that Mrs P has model one, which doesnt have the drain hole - but will still drain under normal circumstances - but may hold water in torrential rain, but the awning wont leak even when collecting water due to the technical nature of the fabric used.
On the adjustable side of the product the Easi Porch has a certain amount of adaptability within it but if the pitch is very uneven it would be difficult to get it 100% straight. The awning should never take more than 20 minutes to put up though.
To put up the Easi porch simply slide the awning piping through the awning rail. Put the bar through the front of the awning. Put the left hand pole in, clip into the ring and pin at the base and then clip onto the side of the awning. Do the same with the right hand pole. If you need to adjust either side to clip into the ring and pin then use the buckle at the bottom of each ring and pin. Peg out.
I never use the centre pole for extra support and have been out in some bad rain with the Easi Porch.
Hope this all helps.
Daniel.

Hi guys. Now back from my break in Somerset after the first outing with the Easi porch. First comment, erection instructions would have been very nice as I began with it inside out and with the metal support inside too, ( don't laugh ). Once I realised how it went it was fairly easy but with hind-sight I think it would be easier to slide it into the rail on the caravan, then insert the long metal rail into it's position and also put in the extending rail into it's pockets then once the side supports are in position it's just a matter of guy-roping and pegging it down. In conclusion I was very pleased with it although it would benefit greatly with a side door. At that price it really would be hard to beat, even the dog liked it !

We have used our easi-porch once and found it really easy. One thing that I did do was to mark the end that I fed into the awning rail first with a permanent marker for future reference. That way, it's impossible to put it up inside out.

Hi everyone
Purchased the compactalite a couple of weeks ago ( very fast delivery)
Just returned from a week away in Wales with my son, the compactalite was perfect for our needs, erected in a couple of mins ( even without the intructions) although i would like to know what the black straps on the inside are for ?- loads of space inside enough room for a double air bed and more.
Anyone thinking of getting one i would give it 9 out 10 - a perfect ten if it came with the instructions.
Best wishes

Read all the above posts as we thought these awnings look pretty good. However - we tend to use porch awnings for trips in winter and wet weather, as we think their main benefit (against no awning at all) is to hang up wet coats and enable muddy boots to stay outside. So far, we can't see how we could hang up anything in these awnings. Are we missing anything?
Posted By: Webmaster
Date Posted: 17/7/2006 at 9:21am
Yes, we hang stuff from our Easiporch, from the middle pole, and we have added a loop to one side to hang stuff from on. The Compactalite we have to hang stuff from the window. I will look into different methods next time we get both of them up

Sorry Daniel, only just seen your answer here. The measurement is 229 cm but the Porchlite Plus says 235cm and anyway I don't want a Porchlite as it wouldn't be big enough, it's only just over 2 metres. I was thinking more along the lines of the Compactalite, my Panorama XL is just big enough inside. If only the caravan was tall enough for it!
In my naivete I assumed that all modern shaped vans were roughly the same height but I've got one thats vertically challenged, like me!

Hi Ian
I would like to get a compactalite to give us a bit more room than the Porchlite plus , it shows the width as 285cm. Is this the minimum size the awning rail needs to be level or can you get away with slightly less ?
Thanks

You can get away with slightly less, Ratty has one, and his roof starts to slope down at the front for about 18 inches I would say, and it fits okay

Is there a porch awning that will fit the avondale wren? (late 80's early 90's model) an elderly couple on our site have had trouble finding something that fits theirs because it slopes down on the back so the frame can't rest against the rear side wall of the caravan. OooH blimin eck, well confused, read through loads of your comments I think I have finally decided though on the compactalite, got one similar on the website of our camping shop called a sunncamp ultima porch that comes with an inner tent to buy as an extra, anybody able to use an inner tent in theirs or is there one available to buy seperately that fits this? Looks ideal for us when my parents come away with us for the weekend, they get the luxury bed inside and we get the awning( still they have to put up with the kids in there too) and I'm fed up wasting all Friday evening putting the big awning up when we get on site and pulling down again Sunday morning and all the folding up and fitting it back in the bags.(ooh I do hate that bit)

Hi Troops,
I am very interested in replacing my standard Porch Awning with a Easyporch or even a Porchlite plus. Having looked at all the Photos I am a bit concerned about the amount of rope and tie downs that seem to be needed. I would appreciate hearing views on this.
If you are on a standard site is there room to park the car?
Could they be a safety hazard at night on the way back from a light refreshment?
I have 2 small dogs (very stupid) and use their extendable lead and a couple cork screw type anchors to stop them legging it after the first rat or French Poodle. Any experiences out there like mine - many thanks George Mc

The ropes and tiedowns in the photos are all out for illustration purposes only - you wouldnt normally necessarily need to put out all the storm straps etc in normal use. I certainly dont on my Easiporch - in fact there are less guys than on a standard awning.

It's often used as a motorhome awning, but it's brilliant for smaller caravans such as particular Adrias or Lunars where the usual fixing height is too high. Generally with compact awnings the caravan needs to be around 2.35 metres high at the very least, but this one can go down to 2 metres !

The Easy Canopi is the brand new concept for 2007. A superb lightweight and really easy to erect sun canopy from Outdoor Revolution. There are times you just dont want to put up a full awning, or even a porch awning, and the EasiCanopi is just what you need.
The edge has an awning bead, so can be slid into a caravan awning channel. Alternatively, if you have a motorhome with a gutter you can use figure of 8 joining strips to attach it direct to the gutter.
Then simply place the two steel poles into the eyelets, either side of the 240cm wide canopy and then guy it out.
Create instant shade from the sun, and shelter from the elements. It'sis fully waterproof and UV protected and gives excellent protection against light showers or hot weather, without obscuring your view
The discounted price shown includes courier delivery to mainland UK and VAT

Hi webmaster. We have a 1995 Avondale sandmartin and were interested in one of the lightweight awnings but were advised they wouldn't fit. At present we have a trio elegance which fits well but is very heavy to carry with steel poles. Are there any of the lightweights suitable for this van. We are both over 70 and finding putting the trio is not so easy to put up now. Would be grateful for any advice.
Thanks

Hullo,
We're very interested in the Easi-porch, but as we've a fixed bed the 'van door is towards the front of the 'van, which means the Easi-porch door, being on the right side of the awning, is on the wrong side for us. Are there any plans to bring out one with a door on the left hand side?
The Cmpactalite looked good too - but the doors are too low for my other half - he's 6'4"!

Our van is an ABI Marauder Mk1 450ct.The handbook says awning size 829 cm.Our current one, which we are looking to replace is an NR Tuscany labelled 14 ft
It fits perfectly,ground level permitting.
We are considering an Isabella Ambassador. This one is labelled 825 x 1158.If the 850 is the length any idea what the 1158 is ? Will it fit?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks and Keep On Vannin

Hi,
We are getting past putting up a full awning (both hobbit sized... ) and like the look of Outdoor Revolution Spacelite & Techlite1. How long is the horizontal awning rail length required for one of these. We have a Sunncamp Ultima 260 that fits. Our caravan is a 1998 bailey Pagent Magenta.

The picture is exactly the same though even though the review of the 2006 model on this site looks really different.

Sorry these are 2006 models..whats the difference HOW are the 2007 models improved?? They all look the same to me so can anyone help before I buy one.
Hi I cant say how they have been updated, but contrary to reports the Space lite is still available through this site and is a great
lightweight awning in fact since we bought ours in early 2007 we have used it
exclusively in preference to our full awning the only drawback I can find is that the eylets for pegging out are too small to accept rock pegs I have replaced all of them with larger rubber ones and the pegs supplied would be ok on grass but useless
on hard standings.Still it is a 100% better than the PDQ.
