This reminds me of when we camped in France years ago... we had a pre-erected Eurocamp tent, arrived at the site (Brittany in September) after crossing in what was officially a Tempest... unpacked with the tent flapping around, the couriers came and offered to put us in a hotel,,, we decided to go for a mobile home instead, which rocked and rolled all night in the storm.  Next morning we went outside to a scene of TOTAL devastation - where the row of tents were standing was just a pile of furniture and twisted poles - the canvases were in the TOP of the 40ft high trees... I agree with Val Windbreaks should never be left up all the time! You never know when the wind will pick up and distribute them around the site.

Camping is like riding a bike you will have 1 bad trip compared to many many good ones .Just pack your kit up and get away again soon and you will soon forget the bad trip .

We had a rough couple of days in devon earlier this summer terrible winds/rain for 2 days/nights  the tent stood up  (  just )  but it snapped one of the main poles on our diablo 900   lucky i had a spare section and managed to fix it in situ .

For tenting in windy conditions, always use these delta pegs at least on your main guys.

Fabulous pegs, even used them with the storm strap on our awning over the summer.

Well said pecker. You cant be far wrong as your tent and you all made it. It is scary when it is windy but you have to get back in there. I personally liked our tunnel tent as it seemed to stand firm through most weather.. It was an older model though and not this new light fabric. It has storm flaps instead of a gap at the bottom and quite thick poles.
