Well said val. Dogs have fur as my OH says. Providing dog has warm bed and if you like you can put a sheet round to stop draughts then under bed in cage is best place. If you start now it will think no more of it. Mine is not caged at home but takes to it camping as that is what we have always done. I dont like the tetther over night as they could get taffled up. You can get non spill water bowls or one that hangs on side of cage to stop them knocking it over.

A border terrier is unlikely to be cold, they are a hardy breed. Our neighbour once complained that I bathed the dog with the hose pipe on a cloudy day. I pointed out that she was only having a bath as she had volunteraly spent the last 20 minutes in a filthy dyke swimming. She did not seem cold then!!!!!

Valk thanks for the groaner.

Someone had to say it, lol!

Incidentally I was kind if assuming that if the crate/cage used was the same sort as mine, the kind that folds for storage, then it would be possible to erect it inside an undertent in order to stop drafts.

Hi

We took our 8 month old Border terrier away for the first time a couple of weekends ago and he slept in his new pop up crate in an underbed "pup" tent.  We made sure that the flap was up so he could see into the tent and he was perfectly happy.

He was a bit confused about the whole camping thing and didn't really understand what was going on but by the second day he seemed to have settled down bit and accepted that this was life from now on.

We are about to go to Wales for a week so hopefully he will be OK too.  It will be a different sort of camping holiday for us too but we are all really looking forward to it.

Alison

We dont actually put the crate (a collapsable metal one) inside the under bed hanging bit as such. It just goes on the ground sheet  so there is actually nothing to stop the draughts from round the tow bar and right under the trailer. Our dog just sleeps on a duvet so there is actually no "sides" on her bed like a normal dog bed would have. If it is windy i do sort of clip a spare tarp around the back of the cage to help although the OH does raise his eyebrows!!! I think they are a bit like the kids and accept it is holiday so everything is a bit different.

Hello.

Thanks for all the replies, we have decided to put Winston under the beds as some of you have suggested.

Will let you know how we get on.

Regards.
