Dito HappyCamper, done the same.

Although I always felt bad of waking the wife up at 5am to ring the tea towel out lol

And your right, for what they cost they do a grand job. I was just being a bit lazy this year

Camplet - great.
Open it up and attach the skirt then close it again. Mark the roof rack with pieces of tape where the skirt goes. Use an indellible marker to write on a couple of 'white bits' of the skirt which piece is left and which is right when you attach it to the rack. Now you should be able to attach the skirt correctly BEFORE you open the Camplet which makes fitting the skirt very easy.
Next tip - make yourself a little card with all the stages of opening and then packing up the Camplet on. I'm surprised Camperlands don't do this. What this means then is that you won't forget to do things in the right order. If you do forget you can bend the key pole OR if you pull the canvas up before swinging the right hand side out of the camplet you can kink the right hand upright pole ( a common mistake when in a hurry). However you can buy spares for repairs for these from Camperlands.
Next tip - open the camplet (with skirt fitted)then lay out the ground sheet (if weather is fine) before pulling up the canvas.
Next tip - with kids it is inevitable that the mattress covers need washing. Don't let them dry out fully before putting them back on or they will be too small. Dry them the final bit on the mattress.
Fridge - we invested in a 3-way - major outlay but they work! EHU or GAS give the codest temperatures, and on GAS unless we turn it down we get frozen milk even in high temperatures. Unfrotunately the instructions that come with them are not brilliant so it takes a bit of practice to get it all working properly.

Hope this helps and have a good time. Off to lake Bed, Slovenia in ours in 2 weeks!

Whatever you choose in terms of any sort of coolbox or fridge, do make sure you buy one of a reasonable size.  We have two, the one is pretty useless as it holds virtually nothing, the other is excellent and holds most of the essentials we need for a week. There was not much price difference and they can often be picked up second hand.

Hello and welcome.  Dont be afraid to ask questions we've all been new to camping at some time and you'll get loads of good tips from the people here.  I can't help about the Camplet but I would advise you get the best cool box/fridge you can afford it's worth it in the long run.  Happy camping your little one will love it and so will you.  Have fun

Hi there

Fellow mum and Camplet owner here.....we have used our Apollo far and wide and I have used it alone with 2 small kids in various places. That was really why we bought it, dead easy to erect with one grown up and two toddlers, which is what they were at the time.

Tips:

Identify a safe place for the key pole, the winder and the legs and have a BIG golden rule that they are returned there ASAP - we keep ours under the passenger seat -if you lost any of these when on the road it would be difficult

Think about the orientation of the trailer before you start to pitch it - the tow bar is at the back when it's up so take care that you are not back to front!

Invest in a spirit level and keep it with the stuff in the golden rule pack

Spend time faffing with the legs (both the wind down ones and the ones you insert in the roof of the trailer) to make sure that the trailer is level before you do the rest. The tent pegs out much better and the beds etc don't wobble if you get this bit right.

Pull the pram hood bit out and peg lightly then zip on the skirting before pegging(already mentioned)

Put the groundsheet carpet down over the flappy bit of the skirting first too - just guess where the walls of the tent will be, a few inches out doesn't matter and if needs must you can peg through it

Put tent up!

We invested in a small bar with hangars which fits on the front bar of the tent and is great for towels, toilet bags, keys etc. Best £2.99 I spent!

The tent will withstand a gale - but it can move around a bit and the bed poles shift and groan which my kids found quite frightening - we have, in the past, wedged the front corners with pieces of wood to make the tent more secure. It is worse if the wind is coming from the front (Mental note to self re camping on cliff tops!) This just makes it feel more secure!

Keep as much as you can in the under sink cupboard and in the trailer when you pack it - you'll be suprised how much it will actually take with no impact on towing. We have bedding (duvets and pillows), two chairs, a table, a wind break, the awning, all crockery etc, lights, food & toiletry staples all in there. The only thing I need to pack if it's sunny on a Friday are clothes, sheets, tea towel, towel and dish cloth. Gas bottle is in the front box, which is a good place to keep wellies etc when tent is erected, so we are set to go.

It's the best thing I ever bought! Oh, we put the kids in the right hand bed nearer the sink coz it's smaller and they can put all their bits (stones, money etc) in the pockets - don't forget to empty them! Then you get to sit on the bench with a book and a glass of wine!

Only negative is that the awning is a silly shape and collects water so we usually don't use it.

Hope this helps!

Agree with everything above except the awning keeps the rain off the front and gives you a dry area when opening the zips  and getting out of waterproofs. We find it an essential feature

If it has collected water just push up from underneath

Is the awning on the Concorde the same as on the Apollo? Just a small thing that zips on the front held up by two flimsy poles? Off for lots of camping this summer so we'll give it another chance!

Yes  just two poles but with deltas they stay up even in gales.

Back to the coolbox question, we buy 1 litre boxes of fruit juice (the cheapest we can get) then freeze these. We can get 3 across the bottom and 3 across the top of our coolbox, and these will easily keep everything cold for a weekend (particularly if you freeze the bacon and sausages beforehand). Plus the bonus is you can always drink them before you go home if you don't want to re-use them on another trip.

We really love our Camplet, it's so much quicker for us than our old tent, hope you have many years of fun camping in yours.

Nicki
