Fabsil. Yes it's not cheap but you asked what was best. Cheaper than replacement canvas or a ruined holiday. Don't scrimp either, I got 5 litres onto our Pennine Aztec and the only place it's ever leaked was at a damaged seam, since sealed. Nice big garden pressure sprayer (new!) recommended. Nice dry preferably not too windy day. When it's dry - a few hours depending on weather - you can fold it up. I can't say as the smell lingered unduly.
Does cotton canvas need proofing? Possibly not if in good condition and not 25 years old but a big advantage is that it dries much quicker as it doesn't soak up so much water. Important given the hassle of drying off a folding camper for storing and the British weather.
I shall certainly be repeating the process next year (year 3) since although we're still dry as with any coating it will become abraded in use, folding and unfolding etc.
