I think your idea is brilliant. Some cynics might say it's a bit "Heath Robinson" in design, but I think you could be on to something. Let's be honest, many UK caravan sites have terrible toilet/shower facilities, and the wild camping brigade would love it. OK some site owners might moan if they saw soapy water running down the grass, but let's be honest, a shower is something taken quickly and the water used is minimal. I'd press on with your venture if I was you. I think it's got great potential. Well done.

Well thank you, I thought I was on my own there for a bit. You're right, gallons of soapy water sloshing all over the field might not be welcome but I did think about taking the top layer of turf off, about 4" square and letting the water soak away through that and replace the turf when I leave. Now that I've  figured out how to post pictures, I'll post up solutions as I find them, particularly if I can work out a recycle system. A plastic tray  with a 4" lip like they use in catering might work as a shower tray and pump it away to a grey water container. Ideally it to would all pack away in as small a case as possible. I've got it down to 24" X 12" X 6".

Nice idea! I use a solar shower topped up with boiled hot water and drain into a small inflatable kids paddling pool, which allows The Boy Wonder to have "a bath". To empty  it I use a plastic hand suction pump into the grey water container and then let it dry in thw sun.

Reckon you could have a shower tray with a sump hole in the corner. There are many types of low voltage side mounted micro-pumps with small bore tubing that you could run to your grey water waste tank. If wired into your on/off switch it would start when the shower is on. However, the "wild campers" would just let the water drain to ground. Still think that once "professionalised" with proper shower hosing etc you'll have a very marketable product.

Well i'm interested  I have also been looking for a gas water heater, as my van doesn't have hot water. I have ended up going for a catering tea urn, very low power though it's 900w to boil and 185w to keep warm 6ltrs. It does us for our tea and washing water fine  But....come to showers yikes...I looked at the 12v drop in a bucket type, but how powerful are they? Yours looks much better

I think I will stick to the shower block than having a shower in me awning, it would frighten my kids to death it they saw me using something like that.

LOL, you guys should come to the tent forums sometimes many of us worked out showering a long time ago and for little cost

Heat water using solar bag if nice weather or in stock pot on hob (or BBQ) if not.

Mix water to right temp in stock pot.

Use 12v shower run on D cells to shower (as someone else said above, Maplins used to sell one but now don't). Stand in paddling pool to collect water.

Use shower to pump water out of paddling pool OR pour into bucket and dispose off in waste water point.

Cost? about £10-£20 for 12v shower and a kids paddling pool £1.99?

Simples

Kids paddling pool! Fantastic idea and cheap too. I think the difficult bit is getting the water to the right temperature on demand without fiddling about with pans of water. The pressurised garden spray is impressive too. Why haven't the European manufactureres caught on to this? The Americans have all sorts of stuff on offer.

I'm inpressed buy the forum, thanks for the good ideas, are there any more?

Nope, very straightforward, like a baby's bath! Take hot water, add cold till it feels OK and use!

My shower tent should arrive tomorrow, I'll call in to the Bargain Warehouse, pick up an inflatable paddling pool and get She who must be Obeyed to take pictures of me having a hot, steamy, foamy shower, In a paddling pool. In a tent. This camping lark is alright innit?

I used to use an almost identical method to PigletandTigger (using a 4xD cell shower) when I had a caravan without shower. A bucketfull of water is plenty for a decent shower and it's easy enough to have a second one on hand if you want a longer shower (just quickly move the pump from one to the other). I just used a home-made duckboard on the ground and found that the water soaked away almost immediately. I'm resurrecting the system for my new (to me) Rapido.

Seems a great idea for non facility type sites,or if you do not want to use the site facilities. We used to have an older  FC and were working towards something on these lines.  We had a gas powered blown air heater, and OH was working on the water heater bit.  Due to ill health we went down the caravan route instead.

How about using 'organic' shower gel/shampoo etc. as this should not harm the grass.

Glad to see others are working on methods of making camping 'how they like it'

Shirley
