An independant shoe repair shop near us sells the black stick on number plate letters and numbers of the correct size. Not sure if they are old stock but he sells them for use on wheelie bins and recycle boxes.

But as this post is about number plates, they are of no use.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I'd just drill out the rivets on the old one and then get a new plate made.  We've got a stick on one and nothing is going to shift it, and this would then hide your old holes as well. As others say, for the sake of a tenner, you'd be daft to risk getting your collar felt.

We had our plates made up by a Jersey supplier advertising on E bay. Fully legal with postcode, name and address of supplier etc, cost £4.50.

Here is the small print from that offshore company in the link above: -

"Disclaimer

Any number plates ordered through our plate builder, unless documentation provided, are for off-road use only, i.e. track days, shows etc. They are designed for this purpose only and may not fully comply with requirements for use on public roads. Only Fully Road Legal Plates can be supplied bearing a Vehicle Registration Mark. We accept no responsibility when using any of the plates from our plate builder section on public roads unless we supply them as Fully Road Legal Plates. Number plates ordered and supplied as Fully Road Legal Plates are manufactured to BS AU 145d standard and comply with UK legislation."

Meaning you need to send your V5 & proof of your ID to the Isle of Man, for the plates to de sent to you from the Channel Islands.  Like I said earlier, get a LEGAL plate from a reputable car accessory shop.

Steve.

For the ten quid or so it is to get them it is just not worth the hassle.

Though I would screw them in rather than just stick them with sticky tape like we did (OK I did) as some scrote will eventually knick petrol by tearing the plates off, driving their dodgy van in to a petrol station with your plates over theirs , then drive off.

Happened a week or two ago to us.

Luckily I told the police though my reg now has a marker on it for stealing petrol I also have the crime ref number to prove it is onthe right car.

That and the fact that I don't drive a clapped out , old , uninsured (probably) red transit van.

Just remember.

steve\ all... disclaimers where commonplace here as well till about november two years ago, make a plate with no makers name, postcode or bs145 for shall we say your parking space at work, but the dvla soon put a stop to that in england and wales, stating that any plate that looked like a number plate was illegal(non conformist) to produce unless full documentation was provided, so that ended the use of disclaimers,to make members fully aware ..there is a criminal number plate squad out there, there duties along with regular police work is to go round rnps shops (registered number plate suppliers)and check there records to ensure they are keeping them for three years and if neccessary cross check on the hard drive where it also stored within the programming to ensure no "signs" have been made, also to be introduced will be the use of anpr systems in all petrol stations, and there are number plate making machines now available to insert a chipset into the plate to record your movements through congestion charge zones, average speed sections on motorways etc ....big brother is watching you and hes gonna look even closer in the not to distant future....as steve and others have said get a proper plate made ..the hassle just aint worth it for sticky letters...

I and I'm sure other users of this forum would be very interested in the details of any prosecution of a trailer tenter using a number plate clearly displaying the correct number of a towing vehicle using black legal dimension lettering on a yellow background.

Please, all you people out there who enjoy looking for things to find wrong as a hobby and feel so much better with themselves when you find one, take up another pastime. Like caravanning. You'll be much happier.
