Just to contradict the gist of most of the above, we've just moved back to a tent and trailer, having previously owned a trailer tent and a folding camper! That said, we're going the other way too and will also buy a caravan before long.
We initially went from a tent to a trailer tent to get the comfortable beds, convenient cooker, space, durability, convenience of leaving the trailer ready to go.
But after a few years we went to buy a tent because we weren't using the TT in anything other than dry weather (when do you get that in this country). We haven't got any where to dry a TT, but could dry a tent. We were also put off using it because with the awning it was a slog to pitch, yet without the awning was not good for anything more than a quick overnight.
Un/fortunately (depending on how you look at it) we came away not with a tent, but having agreed a trade-in on the TT to a folding camper. Self-justification was about quicker pitching to a state including cooking and toilet facility, easier pitching (no pegging in basic set-up), and more mod-cons like hot running water and in-built heater.
But guess what? We found we weren't using it very much outside of the main summer hol, because of the fear of a rainy Sunday morning (having nowhere to dry it).
So.we'll end up with a caravan for the iffy-weather season and for the main summer hols (for mod-cons / comfort), and we've got the tent for when we fancy that option (back-to-basics / smell the grass etc).
Moral of the story: don't be convinced that your upgrade will be the end of it!
Cheers,
TT.
