I havent found any better solution than fan heater if we are chilly whilst not in bed and oil filled radiator at night, mainly to keep just enough warmth to prevent damp. The most effective solution I have found is to 'tog up'. My daughter wore pyjamas under a fleecy sleepsuit when she was tiny and sometimes a hat. Now she's 10 yo and 5'2" i have to make them myself, but she has always been plenty warm enough with that and a good sleeping bag.

A little fan heater like ours works a treat also rather than use the gas rings.Wet heat verses dry. it also is set on a certain setting so goes on/off do not have to be concerned about getting up in the night to wee and find it cold.It also psues out cold air in a heatwave so you can use it when weather cold or hot. Not very expensive and a lot safer than using your gas stove.This is from Argos £15.99 thermostatically controlled (what I was telling you).
