The bit that looks like to back to back letter Cs can be heated with hot water then pinched so that one of the Cs has a narrow gap. That gap is wide enough to slip behind the zip teeth on the camper roof but not wide enough to slide the plastic teeth through so it 'grips' the zip and the awning slides into the other of the two C shaped channels.

There were some pics somewhere, trying to remember where.

Imagine that the figure of 8 is being used to connect the awning beading to the camper zip. You thread the awning beading through the figure of 8, in the way it was intended (well I assume that's what a figure of 8 is for.) You then thread the teeth on the zip through the other side, pretending that the teeth are just like awning beading.

Because the teeth are flat and not rounded like the beading, the gap in the figure of 8 is a bit too wide, so you have to warm it and pinch it together slightly to make the gap smaller so the teeth can't come out.

I'll try and find the photos. They were on someone's photobucket I think.

In terms of style of awning, I believe the ones that have a single pole at the front are the best, in the style of the Techlite or Sunncamp Swift. Anything that requires poles to sit next to the camper won't work as there's no hard surface like on a caravan.

The Kampa Fiesta 350 has roof poles, but it works on the longer Pathfinder and Crusader because the roof poles which run from the front to the back are spaced perfectly to hook into the existing holes in the camper frame for the main awning. We tried the Fiesta 270 on the Cruiser and it didn't fit as the outside poles weren't in the right place to fit the holes on the camper.

looking at the fiesta 350, you say it fits the conway crusaders pole positions, is the height ok, as the van is high ?

Hi Hammers ,is your porch awning one of the larger Sunncamp Swifts? Was thinking of buying the Sunncamp Swift 220 for our FC, just want somewhere for wet coats and dogs after walking!!!! Not bothered about table etc in it, or the fact that it would probably obscure windows.

We have the two zip system meeting at the top, wondering how it would hold with fig 8 in windy weather (don't mean the gales we are having today!!!). Thought I could attach/sew some cotton tapes to the awning to go through the 3 holes at front of FC to tie to cabin roof poles?

I have just made up a porch awning using an old sun canopy that I don't use.
I cut the canopy so that I have a straight edge which I stitched to the awning beading on the porch awning.
I just zip it into place, it is only a cheap awning so I am going to try it out for a 10 day break in July.
If it is a success I am going to adapt one of the new 260 kampa rally air awnings.
So watch this space.

That's a great idea, I phoned an online shop a few weeks ago (name escapes me at the moment) and they sold the long zips that would probably fit to our FC cabin they were £10 or £12 each. I might look into using them to add to the sunncamp porch, utilising like you, some bits from an old awning that we have. Just need to wait for wind to drop so I can measure from floor to centre apex of cabin, Sunncamp fits up to 250cm.

I think the Sunncamp Swift is high for the FC and needs adjusting, by sewing it. I compiled a list a couple of years ago based on what people on the forum had used successfully at that time. It was:

Techlite 1
Porchlite
Sunncamp Scenic
Sunncamp Swift (with some alteration to shorten the sides)

Since then I have learnt that the following also work:

Techlite Pro

Kampa Fiesta 350 (on Crusader/ Pathfinder only)
