Hi B16MCC.

                 Would you like to share, exactly which satellite that footprint, refers to ?.

Looks a little like Astra1 (19.2E), more than Astra2 (28.2E) to me, but I am no expert.

As a new member that is a great post (so much useful information and if your typing skills are as bad as mine, it must have taken you a considerable amount of time) and hopefully you will find this site extremely usefull.

I have an Oyster sat dish (automatic), but have not used it since the end of August last year. I am now getting the van ready for the new season, but the dish searches, but cannot lock onto the sat signal. I heard somewhere that the signal shifted/changed at the end of September!

My system was installed in April 2008, can I reprogramme it or does it need an upgrade from the webb site?

Hi B16MCC.

                 The footprint you post above is for Astra1N, which is good news, as that means a 60cm dish is now good for anywhere in France.

Downside of course is that Astra1N is to be moved to the Astra1 slot at 19.2East at the end of the year, to join the rest of the Astra1 Fleet.

That will happen when Astra 2F arrives latter this year, with what is rumoured a tighter Spot UK beam than the retired Astra2D satellite, so no doubt it will be back to using a 80cm dish again, or worse Astra 2F may render reception impossible in the South of France, let's hope not as many expats would not be happy with that.

  I usually use an aerial and freeview.I am now thinking of getting a sky box and Dish similar to those on ebay. Would I need to get a Sky card to view the channels such as BBC, ITV etc or is that only for premium channels.Thanks

Hi B16MCC, although I don't watch tv on holiday, I am so full of respect and admiration that you have joined an on-line community and made such a fantastic contribution. I am sure I am not the only person who has thought 'it might be nice to have, but I'll leave it alone' because the technology can seem so mystifying, I know I look at those suitcase satellites on ebay and in aldi and think 'yes, but how the hell does it all work?' Your explanations are so clear you have made it all look very un-scary.

I don't know how long information on these things stays current, but do wonder if it would be possible to pin this thread so that all this information is there for people to refer back to? 

I am really grateful and might even give it a go! Thanks!
