dtscully,

We  are thinking of doing the opposite to you!! We have a Raclet Marathon 380 which we love butnow that the kids are up they don't want to camp with us! (Even 1 each in the underbed tentswe have!)

Whereabouts are you located? Ours will be put on Ebay and in the Freeads here very soon once we get it opened out and checked!

We have just bought a 2007 Raclet Floreal TT after 5 years of camping with normal tents. The reason for the change was because we love tent camping but got so fed up of sleeping on airbeds and of being either too hot or too cold.

We are, so far, delighted with our TT and wish we'd bought it years ago. The beds are so comfy and cosy and the canvas makes it warmer at night and cooler in the day.

The TT is as roomy as our old tent was, but seems even more so with the amazing amount of under bed storage.

Erecting the TT is an absolute breeze.  The cab (bedroom) sections goes up in 10 minutes flat and the awning part in a leisurely 30 mins - a bit longer if there's a cold beer involved - but I'm sure will get quicker as we get used to it.

We have been considering this change for a few years, and am really glad we did it. We purchased a second hand model from a dealer rather than shelling out for a brand new one and finding we didn't like it. Buying from a dealer gave us peace of mind that it had been checked and nothing was broken or missing. They also gave us a demo of how to put it up, and heaps of valuable advice. Towing was totally fine, although nervous at first, you barely notice it after a while - it's really no problem.

Another benefit is that the kitchen unit attaches to the trailer and you can leave all your pots and pans in the unit. Likewise, much of our camping gear is now permanently stowed in the trailer which literally means we can hitch it on and set off.

We have only had our trailer tent a month and already been camping more times this year than in the last two years put together. And in warmth and comfort too!

hi there ,

We have a cabannon jupiter TT  and absolutely love it.For the last three years we have had the most fantastic times in it. We are two adults  and 5 children plus a dog... the TT beds are great and although we did buy extra memory foam topper for our side the two fold out beds are king size and we have two under bed tents ..Kids love it cause its like a den. It is heavy and there is a massive weight of canvas we are lucky that our living room is huge where we have let it dry. but all these things we didnt know before buying . also does your car tow the weight of a packed trailer ? It is home from home now and we can have it up and ready within hour .Good luck happy camping ..

Hi there, we have a Conway Cardinal Countryman Folding Camper, it's an older one....1991!! But it's in fantastic condition and we love it. The main cabin is nice and cosy and the beds are 4ft wide, but you do have to climb over the person next to you if you need the loo in the night!!
We use our awning as our dining room and kitchen and have an oven, Forman grill and toaster in it, along with a brilliant camp kitchen cupboard, that takes about 5 minutes to put up!!
Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

we went from a frame tent to a raclet herald (see picture in my profile).
we got it at a good price - but it came with front box, spare wheel, underbed tent and extra centre section.
although the mudwall isn't the best at certain places we are happy. enough room and more for 5.
nighttime we are all cosy and comfy! and it's got a cooker with sink for the wife ;o)

Thanks for all the advice.

I have done a lot more reading, and I think in order of preference (other than cost)...

Holkamper Kyte
Combi Camp (not sure which)
Camplet
Cabanon Stratos/Mecury

I reckon our budget for our first one will be between 1-2K.

My wife loves the idea of the beds off the floor and comfier mattress. We also need ease of putting up. Any tips on which might be easiest/quickest including any awning which we will need for space. Oh, we don't mind climbing over each other to get out.

I have seen a couple in the classifieds on here I am quite keen on.

Also came across the sydney opera house inspired unit - wow!

Cheers
Damian

For that budget it would be an old combi camp and therefore not blessed with the easier awning set up of the newer ones. Our first to was a refurbed combi camp from the dealer in Oxfordshire and within your price range, might be worth a phone call if that's what you're interested in. The main unit is fast to go up and for weekends we preferred to use an outwell day room as quicker to pitch than the awning and easier for us to dry if had to pack away wet.

Trigano Odyssee or Camplets unfold in one, the main unit and the awning at the same time.

We've recently moved from a tent to a TT. Budget for us was a major factor. Also living in the Scottish Highlands doesn't help with choice as everything is hundreds of miles away.
We bought a 91 Conway Royale 320 dl and we love it. We spent more time away in July than at home.
Yes she's old and tired, dirty in places and had a few holes I needed to tape. But it's without a doubt the best buy we've ever made.

September 27th. I'm going away. Don't care where. Just going!!!!
