Well I did have a good long look at FC's, and even visited Caseys at Chester 3 or more times.
But what stuck in my mind, was a comment that a caravan owner said to me, that a FC was the "Best of Both Worlds" whilst also being "The Worst of Both Worlds".
And I think he may well have been spot on, from what I can tell most folk go Tent, then TT or FC, before they eventually end up with a Caravan or even a MotorHome.
So I have decided to hang onto the Tent for as many years as possible, and will then make the leap to a Caravan.
I think you may well be right about that, JB.
We only camp in the summer, and on the continent ...i.e. pretty dry and hot most of the time ... and no camping in the UK.
We started with tents ... and the switch to an FC was fantastic ...
Of course the full set up with awning and all takes longer than it would with a caravan ... though adding a caravan awning will take a very similar amount of time ... however our awning takes a lot of storage and kitchen gear ... while in a caravan awning it would be mostly furniture .. or a plain shaded area, since there is more storage in the van.
The pre made beds in the FC is a huge bonus ... unless you have a van with permanent bed(s).
At the moment ... the FC pluses, for continental touring, and we do move around and cover large distances, far outweigh the minuses, and I suspect we'll stay with it for quite a while ... until we are seduced to something else ... hopefully designs will have improved significantly over the next five years or so ... and we may move sideways to a van or m/home ... but for now ..
we love the FC, and it still feels rather more like real 'camping'.
