Hi all.
My daughter and I used to have a Combi-camp trailer tent (before it was stolen) and we always went to the new year meets of the club we belonged to. We always had EHU, plus good quilts (I found sleeping in with her was better, as we kept each other warm) I kept the fan heater on low all night on the thermostat, so it didn't get too cold, and we had fabulous times.....until one year! There was around two or three inches of snow on the ground - I'd already been called unmentionable things by my father for even attempting the journey with a trailer! The site had a power cut at around 1am, just as we were getting ready for bed after the new years festivities on the site. I told her to get undressed in bed, and stay under the covers, whilst I poured a small bowl of water to wash my hands to take my contacts out. I then got right underneath the covers - even keeping my head underneath, and we slept pretty well, considering it was below freezing. When I got out of bed in the morning, there was still un-melted snow on the floor of the trailer, and the water in the bowl I'd washed my hands in was frozen solid. The electric came on again about 1030am, and the rest, as they say, is history! We had a quilt underneath us, and an old (but very warm) quilt on top, and my daughter was wrapped in her new sleeping bag as well (although she left it unzipped to let a bit of heat out for me! lol
We've been in some places, in various set ups (camper van, and trailer tents) but none so cold as that night...we survived though :)
A good tip someone gave me once, is to find some large smooth stones, sit them on the gas ring and warm them up, wrap them in a towel, and put them in the beds...the stones hold the heat for ages. We've done this, and it works. Saves faffing around with hot water bottles!
