Ah I see you've sold the camper Lobey, It's been a while since I've been on here so I'm guessing it's old news now.

I have thought about getting a Confort as I go everywhere solo these days but I'd miss the space of the Export & so far I've managed to get help unfolding it.

Ok I guess I'll post some negatives about them, they can suffer with condensation especially overnight but a quick airing soon sorts that out, you need relatively level ground to unfold these but it's not impossible to unfold them on uneven ground when you've had practise, also unfolding in windy conditions care needs to be taken, lastly there's not much storage space once folded but you can store stuff under the tarp on top so not the end of the world.

Yes Tich, we had to sell it as it was getting too much for us to handle.
One heart attack and two replacement knees and putting it up and dismantling it was becoming a 4 hour job. Okay when you are arriving on a site, but an absolute sod when you were leaving to then do a 5 hour drive to a new site to start erecting it again.
So we have returned to caravans again.

I have the facility to store a caravan under cover, so it is no big deal for me to work on an old one over the winter to get it tickity boo for next summer.

I've just noticed there's one for sale in the classifieds, on here. Might be worth a look, Mucker?

Rapido

(I'm not the seller, by the way!)

Thanks for link, Lidds.
It looks mint from the pics, but in all honesty, Muckerette has it in her head that these pop-up roof stylees are "too modern", and her heart was made to flutter by one of the older, completely fold-able ones.... which leads me to....

Great pics, Tich.
Now that is the sort of thing she has her eye on!

If Muckerette hasn't come to her senses by next spring, don't be surprised to see a "FAO TICH" thread appear, because we may well want to intrude upon your personal space, and take a good look! I see you are only an hour or so away!

Cheeky, I know, but shy and retiring is no way forward, in my book! LOL!

Thanks again, all. Keep up the good work!

Rapido "flatpacks" are not heaps. Well mine isn't.
It's "horses for courses",and what suits one,may not suit another.

You are welcome to come and view mine and see it up.

I think he was just jesting Terry as muckerette saw an Export in France & was sold on getting one. I've just re-read the thread mucker & I see that you like to cook in the awning not a problem if the kitchen unit comes with the steel legs but they are easy to make if it doesn't. I've been thinking about making some for mine.

& if you went for the smallest model the Confort you are able to do this!!

Now how cool is that!!!

Oh sorry supposed to be posting negatives aint I

If you lot keep this up, I think at the very least, I'll have no option but to accept the kind offers to come and see them/help set them up, next Spring.
I've just been stupid enough to show that last pic to a certain someone, and her little face lit up like, well, like something that is very bright!

I can't believe my plan to put her off the idea is seemingly going so wrong, and I fear for the future.
Shame on you all!

BOOO!

Ahhhh sorry to drag up an old thread I were googling some images of Rapido's & an image from this thread popped up so I were wondering if Mucker1884 ever got tempted by the cardboard wobbly Rapido's?
We're still using ours although we've downsized to a 1978 Confort & we can cook outside with it as it has the legs for the cooker so we can put it wherever we like in the awning or outside so feel free to have a nose around below.

youTube

Of course we do love its party trick;

Be careful they can become addictive!

Wow! A month short of 7 years... That's what you call bumping an old thread!

Nice one, Tich.

She still loves the look of them, but I think she decided she just wasn't brave enough to trust them!
That may sound a tad disrespectful, but when you know next to nothing about them, or have next to no experience of them, there is no getting away from the fact that they do appear flimsy.
I appreciate they really cannot be that bad, when folk like you are still holidaying in a '78 vintage, so that disrespect most certainly isn't my intention!

A year after posting about these, we upgraded our tent to a top of the range model, and in fairness we are still enjoying that to the max, 6 years later. We haven't given much (serious) thought to veering away from canvas... to modern or classic alternatives.

For now at least, I think we'll stick to what we know and love, and stick to casting admiring... and envious... glances at set-up's like yours, whilst leaving those much braver than us to enjoy them.

Wonderful pics, and a truly awe-inspiring video. It truly is a beauty, but I think it's fair to say it takes a certain amount of dedication to keep something so old, in such fine fettle! I take my hat off to you, Tich.

Thanks for putting a lovely big smile on both of our faces, and I hope you continue to have many more years of fun with that very special classic of yours.

I blame Google as I were literally browsing on there & the thread popped up lol, no offence taken I actually thought the thread was hilarious as it brought back some laughs.

Yeah they look & are quite flimsy when opening them up & when its breezy it can be very unnerving but when they're up they're pretty solid weirdly I went from a regular caravan to a Rapido & never looked back.
At last years annual meet we had a right stormy time in Wales with awnings getting damaged but the vans stood firm canvas & the poles can be fixed or replaced which they have been since then.

Rapidofest

The next project is to get the 78 Export in fine fettle & back to its original state as to many of these vans are getting ruined lately although the Confort will be staying but we will be selling the other one.

Maybe I'll pop some pictures up on this thread when its finished hopefully it will be next year sometime & not another 7 lol.

I love them and would buy if the right one came along.

Off and on over the years I've had a hankering for something vintage, in fact the notion has probably always been there. But more and more recently the hankering is becoming a bit more. After many years of touring we decided some time ago to pitch our caravan on a seasonal pitch. This has worked well for us as we love the idea of having a "holiday home" in an area we love. This won't change.

But we still tent camp whenever we fancy a change. The last time we went away with the tent (twice in the last 3 months) it became evident we are getting a bit passed it (in age and impetus). Passed erecting and dismantling a tent in the rain, passed sitting for hours in an uncomfortable camping chair, passed lugging everything we need in and out the garage each trip. But we still want the option to be able to get away in a camping environment. My current idea is to buy a small, old (vintage) but dry 2 berth caravan or similar. I don't want a new modern unit, I think for my second unit we can go rogue and get something quirky. I'm just looking for the right thing.

I love them for their quirkiness the comments & looks you get on campsites like when I pulled up next to someone & they said "oh a trailer tent" I nodded & they went on with their business only to find the Export set up next to them when they came back the looks on their faces was priceless. I've had an audience sat outside their vans watching it being packed down & folded & when it were done I took a bow at the end, but the best one is when someone asks "how do you tow it?" as the A frame & wheel is the wrong way round & I say "I can only tow it on dual carriageways" you can see the cogs turning in their heads for a moment before the penny drops.

Everyone's different & what suits some folk maybe isn't what doesn't suit others but then if we were all the same then life would be pretty boring anyway.
Owned a few Rapido's now sadly the first Export got damaged due to a blow out so got a Confort T (2 berth van) & didn't like it that much;

So after a while owning it I was beginning to go off the idea owning them until the 78 Confort came up for sale & never looked back since. I prefer the 70's vans to the 80's due to the shockingly bright interiors they have;

So we'll keep using them until health & old age get in the way then sadly I'll have to think of something else to use but I'll probably won't like it!!
