Its what is left in the bowl. So when you lift the bowl the water runs out.
A little trick, put your finger in the bit of water left in the bowl and drag towards the plug. The water will follow the track and empty.

My sink does not go level dont know why and the pipe has come off try to put it back on for a hour then gave up will try again when i open it up again really fiddly

We wring out a flanel and leave it at the back of the sink. It soaks up the dribbles.
