We've had our FC for eight years now ... and love it, despite reviewing each year whether a caravan/mobile home/tent would be better.
None offer the complete solution to camping ... so in the end, it depends on your needs/wants/style/comfort etc.
We don't camp in the UK, and also, so far, only in the summer ... so camping is a hot weather scenario ... the canvas and a completely open awning is a very good solution.
Two fridges (we've added one to the standard provided one) and running hot and cold water ... three ring burner and grill (plus a Cadac) and slow cooker ... means we can explore a wide range of cooking and drinking!
The big advantage of an FC/TT is in the towing ... much less wind resistance, so cheaper on fuel ... in France is Class 1 on the motorways (same as a car) so much cheaper than vans or motorhomes .... can tow up tow 80 mph ... and is much easier/safer to tow. We do a lot of travelling as we are away for several weeks, and that is really the clincher.
The pre-made up beds, and rapid set up (no awning), we can be in bed within 20 mins of stopping. Of course longer if the whole scenario is set up.
And we store it indoors in France ... 185 euros a year ... so no ferry costs or long drive to a third of the way down France ... and no chance of damp/mildew discovery when we open up.

Can't comment on FC's or caravans, but we bought our 1st TT this year, Trigano Galleon and love it, the main advantage over anything else for us is that fully laden its <500kgs which is the towing limit of our car. We also went for the full awning, sun canopy and bedroom side annexe, but will limit ourselves to just the sun canopy for short weekends as the awning is a bit time consuming to put up. BUT, huge amounts of space.

Trailer is so light, and braked so you can't tell you're towing anything. mpg dropped from around 50 to 45mpg on a trip from West Wales to Devon.

At the end of the day, everyone has their own preferences, I would go see a few in showrooms, have some demo's in putting it up, then look for a good 2nd hand one, if you don't like it, you can sell it on the next year and won't lose any money.

At the end of the day, as has been metioned earlier in this thread it all depends on what you want from the unit.
If you just want comfy beds, and dont want either a loo unit or hot and cold water, then I would say that a TT would be just right, but if you want/ need a little more "comfort" then a FC might be what you need.

Then there is the whole world of which one do you get, do you go for quick erect, which tend to be more expensive, or do you go for a more traditional one which takes much longer to erect, or do you push the boat out and get a self erecting one! http://www.holtkamper.com/Products/WindForce-System.html,

Enjoy looking whatever you decide, and I hope you find the right unit for you

I have no experience of fc but we do have a TT, a cabanon Neptune. It's easy to put up with only 4 poles and has stacks of space. We have the huge cabanon A frame box which holds stacks of stuff. We get all the clothes, water bottles and other bulky items.
Because of the box we can carry more on the trailer and have room in the car. Now the boot isn't full I can see out of the back window.

When we were away last week several people commented on the size of it when we opened the front right up.

I only went for this design after having a more traditional raclet with full a frame awning. I found it a nightmare to pitch and put away and looked for a cabanon stratos, luckily the rarer Neptune came up first.

Get yourself a rick list of what you really want from it then look about.
For us it was ease of pitching with a decent size.

Good luck

We bought a 2004 dandy Designer from Riva in 2008 with original awning . We also adapted a caravan porch awning for quick weekends away cos the original awning takes longer to set up than the Dandy.
It is roomy, has good beds, has electric , cold running water, and is never clammy and cold in the evenings in summer, like we found tents to be.
We've added a porta potti in the under seat cupboards.
It takes us 15 mins to put up.    A little longer to get set up inside.
But best of all it can be PUT AWAY WET , and I leave pillows and curtains inside all year.
...and it always seems to be raining when we pack up!......
Very clever bit of kit! We love it.

Our Conway Countryman (FC) is great. We bought it for £1k off eBay in 2010 for a one off 6 week trip in Europe in 2011. We've always loved camping but couldn't face 6 weeks on air beds!

We couldn't bring ourselves to sell it as planned when we got back. Used it for one week in the UK in 2012 then did a long trip to Italy last year. Off in 10 hours to Brittany and the Vendee.

Cheap, fits in the garage, easy to tow, comfy, still feels like camping.

As our kids get bigger ( they're 8 and 4 now ) not sure if the 2 double bed set up will work.....if not we will go back to tents.
