Hiya everyone, we made the decision to upgrade( dont know if thats the right phrase?) to a folding camper from our Vango Maritsa 7 man tent about 2 weeks ago. After 2 weeks of torrential rain and thunderstorms in France this year and a week drying out all our gear when we got home, I wanted a different camping option for us (family 5). We looked at a Pennine Pathfinder near us in a caravan saleroom, £4000.00 they wanted for it on a 2001 model, bottle green and terracotta (whoever designs the interiors on these things needs shooting). I fell in love but sadly it had been sold 1/2 hour before we got there. So, I came home and surfed good old ebay and found our new baby. 2001 Pennine Pathfinder Highway ltd edition. The photos looked great, but of course its scary stuff buying from an ad online, plus the fact it was in Southampton and we are in Teesside so the journey was epic. I was nervous that it would be awful, but I need not have worried at all, It has all basically been ripped out and started again., new oven and hob, new carpet, new waterproof gray waxed cotton covers on seats, all curtains and pelmets replaced with beautiful IKEA fabric, new waterproof outer cover, new full outdoor cover,3 new wheels, all electics and gas pipes and element replaced, new hitch and a full service in June. We got it for £3,350. If you take off the folowing : the full awning (£995) a made to measure Isabella midi awning (£600.00) 3 additional bedroom pods and inner tents (£95.00) all waste bottles, water carriers, bits and bobs and a heater approx £150.00) The camper actually only cost us £1500.00, and thats without taking the cost of the service and new wheels off. As far as im concerned, we got an absolute bargain. She looks as new, apart from a few teeny scuffs on the bodywork. We spent our first night in her as we collected it from the new forest, it was fantastic, cant wait to test it out at the end of the month properly. We probably paid over the odds for the age of our camper, but the old owners had spent over £3,000 on refurbishing it to a top spec, we dont need to replace anything for years and, we got the additional smaller awning which is ideal for weekends away, the gorgeous covers and curtains sold it for me, so modern and up to date. So dont discount an older model, if you are lucky, you just might get a good a bargain as we did , good luck with your search! x
