I've heard of similar issues to Veema, but not for the same reason. A lot of pitches base their pricing on either 'tourer only' or 'tourer plus awning.

If your folding camper opens out front to back, then it still has the same, relatively narrow, footprint as a long caravan, and can fit onto a tourer only pitch. The units that open out at the sides become a lot wider, and then the sites don't know whether to charge the higher price or not. Another stupid rule, either way, but not something I've ever come across, personally. clearly I've been lucky in avoiding these sites.

We used to have a trigano trailer tent and now have a crusader that is just like having a caravan. We are new to the fc and have tried hardstanding for the first time. I'm excited that more sites are available to us now, well I thought they were. Up to now the 3 sites we have already tried and haven have no idea what a folding camper is.

Ignorance is usually the problem, rather than rules. They cause problems because they don't know what it is, or how to deal with it, rather than because it's a prohibited unit.

I've never given them the opportunity to argue. I just see what unit they understand (folding caravan, trailer tent, whatever) and then just say; "Yeah. That's it". So far, so good.

At the end of the day, there are three main types of site; those who take anything (no problems there then), those who take caravans, but not tents, and those that take tents etc but not caravans. For the second option I refer to it as a folding caravan, and the latter option I refer to it as a trailer tent. Schimples. Never had it questioned at all, and I've never seen the point in giving them too much information. It confuses them, and, as I've just said, means you get refused out of ignorance more than anything else. Obviously, that's just me, and, maybe, I've been lucky. I'm not suggesting you should just assume, as there would be nothing worse than being refused entry, once you get there, but, in my experience, if you call, tell them only what they need to know then no problem. If you've told them it's a trailer tent, and they've accepted that because they don't know what a FC is, then they're hardly going to come rushing out when you get there and say; you can't come in. That's a folding camper, not a trailer tent!!

This is our favourite site in the Loch Lomond National Park and one we have used often with various types of units.
Now while this pitch looks okay for a FC, I had the devil's own job getting the Bed Skirts pegged down. So much so that we rarely bothered with these after this trip.
Sites that take caravans (and therefore FCs) tend to have areas at the side that are suitable for pegs for awnings but not at each end for bed skirts.

So just because a site says it will take you and when you get there your allocated pitch looks okay, go prepared with loads of Rock Pegs and a bloomin' big hammer!

All the pegs that came with ours are heavy duty rock pegs, they have been through hard gravel and tarmac last weekend. Just seen the weather for next weekend so now going to book the pitch at Silverdale, it takes all units, I'm going for hard standing and they all have their own services plus aerial point and you choose your own pitch, just hope we aren't last in and get a rubbish one as we can't set off until 4pm.
