Did you check that the kitchen pole was swung fully out before trying to insert the connecting pole? Had a couple of occasions in the past when the kitchen pole has not gone fully down leaving insufficient room for the connecting pole. The connecting pole on ours is quite a tight fit, lifting the corner of the frame slightly helps when inserting it.
Many thanks for the replies. I have looked at all the you tube videos but they don't help much because I cannot see the awning poles completely assembled.
The problem is that when I lay them flat before puling out the awning they don't form a straight angle so I cannot get the short connecting pole in without bending them, which would probably be impossible anyway.
Thanks Lincoln 5 I will try that again making sure the kitchen pole is swung properly out.
Hi John, not sure if we are talking about the same thing. When you say awning poles do you mean the ones attached to the trailer and the canvas? Or the separate poles that are fitted when you have pulled the canvas over?
Thanks Steve. I am talking about the poles on the trailer. They have come away from the tent and are now lying loose. Still can't find a way to connect the small connecting rod to join them together because they aren't angled in such away as it's possible.
Hi John, sounds like the kitchen pole could be bent. With everything lying flat in the open trailer and looking from the back, is the right hand side of the frame sticking up higher than the left?
Also check that the wing nuts on the diagonal poles are loosened as this could prevent them from telescoping fully. This could stop the two sides of the frame lining up for the connecting pole.
Many thanks for the replies. The poles had been bent in transit. Bent poles seem to be a problem with Caplet trailers!. Anyway they are going to send new ones out.
I did manage to get this problem sorted out. The main diagonal poles were bent. Don't know how that happened, but they were surprisingly easy to bend back.
