Just a thought being a newbie......... do I take it you can't use a hard standing if you want to erect an awning due to having to use tent pegs to secure it?

If you are putting an awning up on hard standing you'll need rock tent peg. Some sites make it so you park on the hard standing & your awning goes on the grass side.
We only ever us CL sites, so much more peaceful & a lot cheaper, sometimes for better facilities.

We have got mainly the thick metal pegs anyway. Only got a few of the plastic/thing metal ones. Generally will be fine. may just take a bit more hammering in!!!!
