"missus still wants a caravan but my foot is down on this one."

tim,

I agree with you.

We tried 3 new caravans and towed with 2 new Discovery's in an effort to find a stable, safely towable unit. It cost us thousands and we failed miserably. I spent hours researching and reading, fitted various dampers and anti snake devices but had to admit defeat when we nearly wrote the lot off at 50 mph on a motorway. Fortunately I got it down to 30 mph without damage, crawled home and sold both Disco and caravan.

We were so traumatized we took our holidays in hotels and cottages but missed the freedom so 2 years ago bought a folding camper. We are now on our second a Pullman and it is great from every aspect, space, facilities, cost, convenience and especially towing stability and fuel economy.

Pity we did'nt know years ago but better late than never.

Hi, I am thining of getting a folding camper, and wonder if anyone has any ideas of where i can go to have a look at some, preferably pre-loved or just plain second hand, i dont mind a few repairs if required. I am in the bradford ared (that near leeds if you dont know where bradford is)
Any ideas, thanks

BARRONS AT COPPULL NEAR CHORLEY ITS ONLY ONE HOUR FROM KEIGHLEY THEY HAVE LOADS

Unless you intend to buy new, you will get a better deal privately. For some reason, dealers will not give warranties on secondhand campers like they do on caravans but you still pay higher prices for them.

Yes, it was, and I thought they were a bit tight not giving me a warranty, but I've been told Casey's won't give warranties on "pre-owned" campers, either.

According to Dandy's website

All pre-owned campers come with full service and 12 months guarantee.

I am supposed to going to Dandy today (3 mins away form home)to have a look at pre-owned and to have a look around at the factory, a friend of mine works there, used to work for Conway till it shut. He told me his boss would advice me on which of the old dandies to buy and which to avoid. Kevin also told me that they have a few pre-owned in at the moment and they are all up on display.

I have put off my visit till 2moro, need to food shop instead.

If I were you I would go somewhere like Barrons have a good look round the different models and then look out for one on Ebay.   I bought one like that and am very pleased with the price we paid for what we got.  I went to Barrons in Darlington the first time I saw them.  I was looking at motorhomes but the Pathfinder there caught my eye.  I then went to a dealer down here in Surrey and looked at Conway Crusaders and Pennine Pathfinders right next to each other.   I think it was somewhere south of Guildford, can't remember their name, and one in Shepperton very near us that only sold Conways.  In fact the camper we finally purchased (a conway crusader) second hand had been purchased from Shepperton new.  The bloke we bought it from was very helpful too.  Very patiently showing us how to put the thing up and down.  And very patiently tolerated our rude attempts to beat the price down.   We met somewhere in the middle in the end and he went home happy as did we.

Take your time though, I spent over 6 months looking around and musing about what to get.   I bought  in February too.  Not many buyers about then get a good price.  I still look longingly at Motorhomes sometimes cos I fancy taking off on my own for a few days occasionally.    They are too much of a fag when you have kids though, putting the bedding up and down for sleeping, eating, travelling etc etc.
