whats all this bull about not being able to touch the inside of a canvas folding camper in the rain. i have purposely rubbed the the inside canvas of my pathfinder in very heavy rain and its remained bone dry. all this talk about canvas being inferior to plastic is just a lot of wishfull thinking. when we first came to this country about twenty five years ago we purchased a canvas ridge tent .i lost count of the times it was put away wet on our travells round the british isles and europe .its over twenty five years old now and still as good as new .and yes you could rub the inside canvas in the rain and nothing came thru.

and as for plastic lasting .there are numerous examples of cotton cavas in the world some over five thousand years old that is in incredible condition .

Perhaps we have been fortunate but we have never had problems with tents or our fc's leaking or rotting and that is in 40 years of camping.

Provided they are treated with respect and used, packed and stored with care they will last long enough to allow you to get bored with them and on to the next model.

Certainly longer than a caravan or motor home, when I look at our camping history.

Do the Dandy's and other plastic fc's smell of plastic or get condensation inside?

Mine doesnt. I have never had a condensation problem. When I cook I open the window a crack & sometimes during the night I may open it a crack aswell. We have 2 adults & 2 kids in ours so it smells of everything BUT pvc , especially when I have spent the evening sampling the local real ale  Seriously a couple of new Dandys I have been in have that "new" plastic smell but it soon dissapears after a few expeditions so I,ve been told. This a totally biased post from me but I am a 100% pvc convert. I used to camp in a canvas frame tent & was extremley dubious of a pvc camper. I was lent a Dandy for a weekend & have,nt looked back since. IMHO pvc is an extremly underlooked material for campers & am really surprised it doesnt feature in other manufacturers line ups. If you get the opputunity to use a Dandy try it, you,ll be pleasantly supprised.

Regards THUMPER.
