Febe it is entirely down to personal choice. There are people that will not have a word said against camping in a tent - but we all know the pro's and con's. Same goes for fc's and also caravans.
We loved our fc unit and if it were not for us travelling further afield (with a LOT of kit) we would not be selling. It is easy to put up, has absolutely loads of space due to the two beds being left up, is warm & draught-free (especially so if you have side skirts).
The same problem drying a tent also applies to a fc as it's canvas (unless you go for a pvc Dandy).

Caddyclan your post about soleil plage to Huw got me so interested we think we're going there in 2010, so thanks don't think we'd have found it without your post! I'll be interested to see how you get on next year.
Oh we are SO excited to be going finally - I will be sure to post a review on here. I've read reviews on other sites about how great Soleil Plage is so it baffles me as to why there are so few reviews on here. Perhaps everyone wants to keep it a secret....
Glad to see we aren't the only ones who plan years in advance - we've already chosen our site for 2010 too!!!

Hehehe we're planning on going to Chalain in the Jura region. The friends we holiday with are keen to be by a lake for watersports. Looks a lovely area....
Now...time to set to work on 2011!!!

I have swapped the other way! A caravan is certainly not an upgrade! I have just returned from the South of France and Spain in my Pathfinder. Just hubby and I and so much space! Safely and legally towing at 80mph! Overnight stops no problems. We found some amazing sites but many were inaccessible to larger caravans and some simply didn't allow large or twin axle caravans on! We felt that we had the best of all worlds. We were able to have the luxury of a caravan but cetainly none of the downside associated with towing. As a result we had the best pitches (Overlooking the med) and no wet packs! I guess it depends where you are going to go with your unit but certainly the last thing to buy is a large caravan in Europe! Not only all the outlined points but what about the extra charges on the peages?!! Fuel?!!! Ferry crossings etc?! Really think hard about this one please if you are planning to go far in a caravan!
