I hope the girl is recovered from her ordeal. I agree with Jo and John the French campsites do have it right. The communal block does mean that it's always busy and the large cubiles make it easy for everyone to fit in.
We have camped on a few English sites and more recently I've had a battle with my son who wanted to be independent and go to the toilet by himself. He's seven and I had to insist that he went in the female toilets, while I waited outside. In France this year there wasn't that problem.
Our last campsite was on the Isle of Wight and had access to a beach which made the facilities feel very unsafe. I've decided to go for smaller sites and preferably French ones. The Sunelia site we went to this year had excellent security and the kids felt as though they had freedom. They also had kids toilets, giving kids some independence.
I had to tell my two children that the freedom they had on our last site would not be the same for every site, especially if we went to a large site or the traditional toilet facilities that the English sites have. It really is a very difficult thing because you want your children to be safe and watched but at the same time, not have them too scared to have some independence. Any ideas how to do that?
