I would just plead innocent and say the campsite had mice and didn`t want the canvas damaged by them !!!

The campsites we go on have the bins emptied daily so they`d be in the process of being crushed by the time they were missed and that would only be from the thieving community.

Other option is to dumb the bodies on a local pig farm as pigs will eat every bit, including the bones so no trace left whatsoever

I am the other person who was robbed that night, and I don't take kindly to the insinuation that I am commiting an insurance fraud,

the front window of the van was opened, not forced, they used a tool to slip pass the rubber seal and open the inside catches with no damage, then cut through the blind with I assume a knife, raised the blind and took everything they could reach from the window. As far as I know they never entered the van, I am not a drinker so was not drunk

they took only cash and jewelry camera and watch leaving all cards behind and took the time to empty our wallets and my wifes bag and leave them on the grass outside.

We have a small Eriba van and were sleeping 15 feet away. some of you obviously don't believe it's possibe to sleep though that, well I hope you never have to put it to the test.

Totally agree with you Dave and sympathise. The outlaws were overnighting in an aire in France en route home. I got a call at 2am from M-i-L to ask that I contact the RAC for them as their door had been opened with a wire and her handbag stolen complete with bank cards, cash, passports and van keys.

They were roused by the intruders but only by the cold air and the door being shut - by the time they were fully alert the thieves were away in a getaway car.

Frustratingly, they had a safe on board but F-i-L had forgotten to use it. Much gnashing of teeth and subsequent refusal to drive from Spanish property to home thereafter, the camper van was eventually consigned to history.

Definitely not fraud, the delay to get a new camper key and the hassle of cancelling all cards was an unnecessary nightmare. Fortunately UK house keys were in the safe, negating the need to change locks at home.

I think the truth is that if someone wants what you have whether here or abroad they will do ANYTHING to get it , it is just a lot easier to rob someone asleep under canvas or in a caravan most are on holiday and lose the alert level that we all maintain to some degree at home I think the only real answer is to protect your property as much as possible sleep with your valuables?.? I feel terrible for people who have experienced this I sleep very lightly so wake up at the smallest sound I know others who sleep deeply and wouldn't wake in a force 9 gale!! Be careful all and do whatever it takes to protect you and your property

Jj is right if they want it they'll take it whatever. I now hear of some people leaving things unlocked, due to causing less damage.

Dave
You have my sympathy. I had my wallet stolen on the Rome Metro last year so I understand how sickening it can be let alone how inconvenient. It took two months to get the claim sorted through Red Pennant and at the end of it I was still out of pocket. So whilst some people may well think of fraud I somehow doubt they have gone through a claims process!

Police advised me to leave a £20 note on the mantlepiece at home ... thieves break in ... see the cash, take it, and scarper, without trashing the house looking for cash .... most break-ins are after cash (quote).
