Hi Gents,

Excuse me interrupting your thread, but I am also researching an awning for my hard top camper. I contacted a UK dealer called Camperlands, who also sell the Flagstaff range of campers.

They advised me that the Sunncamp Maestro ST(which I think stands for short top) will fit my camper.

Im told they had one on of the Flagstaff campers on display with the awning fitted.

The awning, although a porch design, may be a reasonable compromise as I feel its relatively inexpensive.

Regards

Matt

Hi Mattyg

Yes I have a handbrake.  I must confess that I'm a bit concerned that you do not.  I know that the Original Colemans were imported from the USA in their original configuration. In order to conform with British legal requirements, the axles and tow hitch were replaced. You should have a mechanical overrun braking system and a handbrake. US ones sometimes had electrically operated brakes.
The company still deals with spares for the Coleman units and warn that there are Grey Imports that may be illegal to tow on UK roads.

Take a look at this link and contact them if in doubt, they are most helpful. http://www.rvstop.co.uk/generalinfo.html .

Once sited and the stabilisers in place,  we are steady as a rock, the unit should not sway a great deal when you move about inside.

Your looking for what we call over here as Solar Bunkend Covers, I have yet to purchase a set but the results from those who have is an overwhelming success for heat reduction and eliminating the condensation problems.  Custom ordering is available you just need to inquire if they ship overseas.  This company's customer service is fantastic.

One of the problems I noted with the Flaggstaff was that they were unbraked so you had to have a pretty powerful car to handle that!

Hi All,

The unit weighs in at about 600kgs and it is a legal requirments at about 750kgs, so it will be fine without a brakes. I must admint in comparison with other caravans Ive towed this thing seems feather light, and I hardly noticed it on the back of the car even when the onboard water tanks (20 gals!!!)were near full.

Ive enquired about un upgrade to a braked unit and the costs hover aroung £500. So if Im pleased with the unit after this summers adventures and I decide that the brakes are a necessary upgrade I may invest.

Ill be sure to let you know.....
