Hi - as a tin tent man I hope you don't mind me making a comment.

I joined the C&CC this year in order to have a "known minimum standard" when visiting sites have also stayed on some good quality private sites.

Don't understand why the club sites need to completely close facilities for cleaning when on the private sites I have stayed they are left open whilst being cleaned and have still been immaculate whenever I have used them.

Although a long time since I have stayed in a tent my impression after 1 season touring is that the C&CC seems too involved with static and lodge development on sites and is not investing enough in the tent & touring side in order to keep up with market expectations.

We all know the weather in this country so more should be done on pitch drainage, all weather pitches etc.

The C&CC have at least one site, Blackmore, that has AWP that are suitable for tents. We stayed there in our caravan in April this year and were directed to one of their grass hardstandings as we needed to use an awning. The grass has a kind of plastic mesh under it that means it is easy to peg a tent (or awning) but it does not get muddy, drains extremely well and is level. This is the sort of material that is often used under grass car parking areas so it is also very strong and hardwearing.

Interesting that a TT owner went on a hell of a rant about these pitches recently (I like them!) saying they were not suitable & that he preferred gravel or concrete.  I did ask how he put his pegs in at the time.  Suffice to say you can please some of the people some of the time...

You know the rest.  It takes all sorts.
