Trying to justify their expensive, fuel guzzling, road blocking purchases perhaps (living on the edge of the Lake District I can think of more than 1 journey ruined through being stuck behind an inexperienced caravan / motorhome driver.)
I go camping because in the evening I can sit round Campfire/ BBQ with my family or sit under canvas listening to the rain, playing games or sit outside chatting to other campers. Always a bit perplexed when I go past the caravans with the TV on? Whats that about? You're camping for goodness sake. Get out and enjoy the clean air rather than worrying about the drafts- stay in a cottage if you want it to feel like home. For me it just sums up all thats wrong with the world - driving to a field in the beautiful countryside and sitting in a manmade, environmentally unfriendly plastic box, and watching the TV - madness !

This is a very blinkered view of caravanning. We sit outside, we barbecue, we don't have a telly in the caravan at all (we only have one telly at home!)...but if people want to go and sit in their caravan and watch telly, what's the problem? Its about getting away and having a break, it doesn't matter how you do it!
I don't really think anyone is trying to convert anyone else...as has already been pointed out, its a pros and cons thing...people's observations...I don't think my caravan is any better than your tent...I don't feel the need to try to convince you to try a caravan. I like my caravan, it makes me and my family very happy when we are away in it. Some people like the back to nature element of tenting without luxury, some of us enjoy a few more home comforts...it wouldn't do for us all to be the same.
Apologises to all those in caravans, some of my best friends after all are caravaners
I still don't get the TV thing though, i know I should live and let live but I just don't get it ! I guess some of us cant live without Xfactor!

So why do we all think the summers are less sunny than before? <<
Because we have eyes??
Please look at the facts
As I said, I have a collection of VHS camera tapes dating back to 1984 - the majority of them detailing camping holidays from 1985 to 1999 (when I unwisely pointed the camera at the eclipse, and destroyed the iris).
I recently spent many hours digitising them, and watched them carefully for capture and editing purposes. It really is remarkable just how good the weather was during those summers - it's not just memory, it's video evidence.
In fact, when my daughter, now married with children of her own, saw some of the footage her spontaneous comment was, "We don't seem to have those sort of summers these days"
She is right. We don't.
I'm with eddiewin88 on this one.
When you look back at old photos all the children are wearing shorts, meaning that it was hotter then. Look at all the shops in the old photos they all had sun canopies, meaning the sun used to shine back then. Our local park used to have a paddling pool for the kids to splash about in, but that got filled in because it was too cold.

But you're ignoring the facts, proper validated data - its getting warmer and sunnier - its recorded by the met office!
They had sun canopies because it was fashionable the paddling pools went cos of health and safety.
If you think I'm wrong prove it - links to properly validated articles, papers, data - no one is providing these because you are wrong!!
