Looking for advice here, Does fading mean that the canvas is on its way out, or in need of re proofing? I've seen a lot of adverts describing fading on the main unit of a folding camper, whereas the awning still looks relatively new
the awning may also look like new because it as had less use ? if it is a older used trailer or camper your buying may be worth reproofing just to be on the safe side.
Our 1980's Penine Fiesta is faded when compared to the skirts but it withstood torrential rain and wind at Scots Farm East Wittering Sept. 2005. I was looking for leaks with a torch as the power went off but it weathered the storm. I don't think it has been re-proofed, the original owner had it serviced in 1996 for £124.00. I bought the stuff to do when we got it in 2004 but haven't used it yet.
Ultra violet light bleaches the dyes used to colour fabrics - the main cabin tends to be used more than an awning especially for overnight stops and weekends, so will have been exposed to more sunlight and hence more UV.
It doesn't necessarily mean the canvas needs re-proofing.
Thanks everyoe for your help and advice, it's certainely put my mind at rest. I've gone ahead and bought a Conway Crusader looking forward to "happy camping"
Ours is fading, reproofing it has darkened it a little though. It is an old model, but the canvas is still in good shape and I can see no reason why it shouldn't last a few more years. Bern, have you popped into the Conway Owners Club? They have a forum and a good social calendar too, for the weekends you're not away with the UKCS!!
------------- Gone are the 'sleeping on the floor' times, I love my TT.
