Hi

Yesterday we visited Jacksons to buy some stuff (as we newbies) which also included a hitchlock and wheel clamp.  Got home later and excitedly went through all that we had got (and there was lots) only to find neither of the security stuff fits.  OH will have to go back to return these now and try something else.  I'm working today so we can't even take our camplet with us and even try fitting before we buy.

Would like to know which devices you use.  Were going away May bh and obviously need to get it sorted out before we go but due to working commitments and only having one car, we only have Sundays to go trekking around the shops.

Any advice would be grately appreciated.

I had a Camp-let and found that the usual security devices would not fit, so Jacksons recommended a trailer-cop which fits inside the tow hitch (it's like a tow ball which expands when you lock it). I took pictures and measurements with me and asked the guys on the caravan spares counter for advice. I didn't bother with a wheel lock as my camp-let was quite an old one. Jackson's are very good at taking things back if you need to return stuff (but you probably know that already).

I'd rather be camping

Hi MandSlady. I also have a camp let and took one of the wheels with me when looking for a clamp although I never found one which fitted. As for the hitch lock I got mine mail order from Towsure and must have been lucky as it fits fine. Only advice I can give is to get a hitch lock which also fits when the trailer is hitched to the car. Handy at services! Nick.

Thank you for your advice.  OH saw something in Halfords so are going over tomorrow to have a look.  Also going back to Jacksons to take the other stuff back.  We've got the photos of it which we will take, so hopefully we should have some joy.  Will keep you posted.

Thanks again

Hi again

Been out shopping again today.  We have got the euroclamp and some kind of universal hitchlock (which we cant use when towing) although if anyone is struggling to find something that will fit theirs we are move than happy to put a photo on.

We still have to get some wheelnut locks (need to work out the thread ratio for those) and will maybe get one of those pin hitchlocks (both in towsure catalogue) for when we are stopping at services, although we will probably split our visits to one adult and one child just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again for your advice, and yes, Jacksons were good about the refund (have to say, you do get excellent service from them).

I am also looking for a hitchlock to fit my Camplet.  The guy at Camperlands reckoned you  can't get one to fit.  What make/model was the hitchlock you got from Towsure, Nick6600?

Universal Trailer Hitch Lock L953   Universal trailer hitch lock

Suitable for most 50mm pressed steel and cast couplings.   Quick and easy fitment  Supplied with 2 keys.  £19.95

Hi Neild06

Could work out how to link but this is what we got.  Hubby put it on.  It is slightly loose but does seem to fit ok and at least there is a visual deterrent.  We also have the bulldog euroclamp EM500SS although we do need to get some locking wheelnuts.  We had a look in Halfords for these but we need to measure properly for those, although that is a job for Sunday but will let you know what we got for those.

When looking around at tts we never gave it a thought about security until we got it home!

I dont think its worth your while fitting either a hitchlock or wheelclamp, two minutes will lift the whole lot and throw it on a trailer anyway.

A better bet would be a big lock and chain and a great big fixing point screwed to the ground or wall like those used for motorbikes. You can get a sol secure gold rated one from Oxford I think
