I have just purchased a camplet and have just come back from our first trial.  I tow with a Landover which is excellent for towing but it throws up a lot of road dirt and stones etc.  I looked at buying the optional cover for the TT but its £140.

I was hoping to be able to make one but I don’t know where I can but some suitable material (or what would be suitable)

It would be sewn on a normal home sewing machine (so not to heavy) unless it could be glued together.

It doesn't need to be fully watertight as the camplet has a hard top.

I would like to be able to pad the leading face - to save the TT from flying stones (i was thinking of a double thickness with a bit of foam or something.

Any thoughts on where I could get some material, construction tip etc would be appreciated

Hi,

I am also needing a new cover for my trailer tent as i have small holes in mine which I didn't realise until I took the cover off and saw the mould and mildew!

I emailed HPL which is a company I found which specialises in trailer covers and seems reasonable. They sent material samples the next day.

Their e mail address is www.haywoodproducts.com

Don't know if this is helpful.  Maria

Hi all

My hubby and I made our folding camper cover from a huge good quality ground sheet and an eyelet kit.

The blue peter bit -

We cut some small squares out of our old tarpaulin cover approx 3 inches in size put them under and on top of the ground sheet then banged a hole in by using a good eyelet making kit, the extra pieces abpove and below gave it extra strength.

We then threaded a large length of bungy strap (bought by the meter from Towsure) in between the holes and 'HEY PRESTO'  a man made cover !!

The cover served us well last year and took many miles of wind battering on the M1 !!

Only advise I would give is add an extra piece of bungy strap from front to back to secure the cover down during travelling (as wind seems to lift the centre)

Hope this gives you some ideas, it worked for us

Cheers

Ema

We also did the 'Blue Peter' trailer cover.

I bought a large heavy duty tarp from Costco for £5.  I cut it to size and then did 'hospital corners' at each corner (basically the way you would fold the corner of a square christmas present when wrapping it up)  I used duct tape to tape the corners flat.  This worked very well because the tarp was silver and so was the duct tape so you did not notice the tape.  I then used bungy cords to hold it down.  This worked very well for quite a while, however, the duct tape has started to come off now and a couple of the corners have come undone so my next plan is to glue the seams with some sort of waterproof glue to hold them down and then redo the duct tape on top.  Someone also mentioned that gaffer tape might be better than duct tape, I think it is stronger and more waterproof.
