Hi, can anyone tell me how to adapt a porch awning to suit a folding camper, has anyone actually done this? I don't want to buy the huge awning!

I know you can have a sun canopy or something similar made at TVS quite cheaply. Not sure how you could adapt anything as it zips on.

The awning for the Conway Challenger is not that big, and all the sides zip out so you could do this to make it smaller in weight, only thing is we found was the price!

Yes the awning is very pricey - how easy is it to put up?

lol, how easy is any awning to put up!

No, it wasnt too bad to be honest, most of the poles are sprung together. Its not that big either so after a couple of goes will be up in no time.

But me and hubby still nearly killed each other! Think cos we both like to be incharge, next time he says will do on his own, which he could do as dont really need 2 of you.

thanks for that! Think perhaps I will save my pennies up to bite the bullet & buy a new one - aaaaaaaaaaaah.  Just can't bear the idea of tramping into my brand new camper with muddy wellies on!

ps try & stay alive! - get hubby to do it by himself!

lol, Yeah good idea about hubby doing it himself, hard for me not to poke my nose in tho!

I was the same before we brought the awning, as so expensive, didn't really want to get one - (I thought that was the idea of folding camper easy to put up, an awning takes a bit to put up so now quicker than our frame tent!)

But glad we got it now, I did say would only put it up for a weeks hol, but hubby likes the awning so says will use it everytime we go, spose at least we will get our moneys worth!

We have a awning with ours and to be quite honest would not be without it, however we deliberated like you over a TVS sun canopy or outwell tarp for weekend get aways,

Finally went for the Argos handy tent and it has made a big difference, quick and easy to put up/down and yet you still have the comfort of "home"

The awning is pretty easy to put up after a couple of practise runs.

For overnight stops (& for use as a gazebo on our trip to France) we have bought a Royal Dayroom utility tent which I can put up in 10mins with a little help from my 9yr old daughter.

Hey Mountain Runner - you gave me a great idea!  I could use that utility tent, turn it around so the "porch bit" fixes to the camper (I have an excellent sailmaker) - job done!

thanks

They hook onto the Challenger cabin. If memory serves me right there is one pole with a smaller hook, this goes in the middle, the larger hooks go to the left & right.

I find it easiest to zip awning on, fold it back over cabin, set up frame & then pull the awning over the frame.

We have a Conway Excel which is almost the same, only the body is different, but the awnings and extensions are universal, it is very easy to put up.
andy_1977 you ask about the poles.....
The hooks hook into holes on the poles on your cabin, if you have a fiddle about at the corners of the frame on your cabin bars you will find these holes and will see what i mean, it sounds awkward and it is hard to explain in words on here but when you see it it will all come togather, i can assure you when the poles are up these hooks lock in tight and the canvas tightens up even more ( we have been in some very strong winds over the years and had no probs) Good luck.
